I don't know. I've played this a little bit. Maybe I'll get around to completing that main quest. Well, perhaps just one more sidequest first...

Early Access Review
If you played the original Slime Rancher back in the early days of its Early Access version, you'll be pleased to hear that this is nothing like that. The level of completion of this game is comparable to Slime Rancher just before release.

The reason for this should be obvious: they're not reinventing the wheel here. If you liked Slime Rancher, this is more Slime Rancher, with new areas and slimes to explore and meet, and a ton of new quality of life improvements.

The biggest difference between this and the original Slime Rancher so far would be Slime Science. It's available from the start, upgrades like Heart Modules and the Jet Pack are now included and require resources to make. There are also upgrades to add to more inventory slots, so celebrate. Also, instead of making harvesters to collect resources like Jellystone, there is a new upgrade to the gun that allows you to collect them from respawning nodes in the world.

Another difference is that I have yet to find an area locked by a key. Instead, bigger areas have so far been physically blocked by Gordos or smaller areas locked by puzzles that require plorts instead.

Overall, if you enjoyed the original Slime Rancher, you should buy this. Even in Early Access there's much to explore and experience. 5 new adorable types of slimes are awaiting you.

One of the funnest games I've played in a long time. Terraria effortlessly combines two of my favorite genres, side-scrolling platformers & open sandbox builders. There's always something to craft or collect that keeps my interest. And the load of nerdy and geeky references is a huge plus. By far, the best $2.50 I've ever spent, and easily worth the full $10 price as well.
