If video games were part of school curriculum, Disco Elysium would be a required title to play. It's an incredibly well designed narrative-driven CRPG that gives you (I'd argue) a succinct snapshot of society and the messy mishmash of ideologies that comes with it. The less you know going into this, the better, especially since your protagonist can go in a number of different paths based on the decisions you make, dialogue you choose, and when you approach them. If you're not a politically-minded person, some of the humor and criticisms of communism, liberalism, fascism, etc. may go over your head, but it will get you thinking if you allow yourself to be absorbed in the world of Revachol. If nothing else, you're diving headfirst into an established setting with its own rules and potential threats (THE PALE) that will make you want to dig even deeper.

Oh, and there's a murder to solve while you're having an existential crisis. Dive in, enjoy the world, and be nice to Kim. You won't regret it.
