Tried this out during "the pilot" for free. Fairly interesting, though technical and production issues fault this game mostly for the time being. Maybe another 6 months, a more complete tutorial, less motion sickness from the camera, and multiplayer support would make this shine.

Still has a long way to go for drop-in players looking to get a quick PTSD fix

Early Access Review
Early Access Review on 25 June 2016

The concept and gameplay is unique, and so far I'm impressed with this in Early Access. I like the setting (American Civil War era), simple economy system as used in the classic "Drug Dealer" game, and the concept of shares in the company as the main storyline to follow. Brownie points for Mac compatibility, as I was too lazy to get on my PC to play!

So far the only minor issues I've got is that tough bandits appear too early in the game, some jobs created are not scaled correctly (5 day delivery on the starter train set? Whoa...), and finally, the major complaint I have is that the UI (at least in the tutorial) really needs work. The quest log fills up pretty quickly, and it's easy to get lost in the entire list. Perhaps a grouped view (main quest, deliveries, events, etc.) and auto-dismissing completed quests would improve the clutter.
Would be good to color-code jobs/quests based on difficulty level as well.

With that said, I think it looks really promising, and I wish all the best for the developers in creating a "Sid Meier's Pirates!"-esque game...on rails! :)

Early Access Review
Early Access - Buy only if you want to contribute to the developers through playtesting and feedback, or simply just to support them
Full Game - Worth a shot at this price range if you like a fresh take on real time strategy sims - provided it is polished up, of course.

The main problems at this time of writing (Feb 2015) are listed below:
1) AI is extremely aggressive even on Intern and Assistant level.
2) Stock valuations for AI companies are skewed too high (perhaps due to AI aggressiveness?)
3) AI has a real tendency to buy your company shares once you're doing fine and having low debt-equity ratio, yet your company's share price doesn't go up by much?
4) The AI also likes to bid aggressively on the auction house, and takes good plots of land before you are fast enough to react!
5) Hex coverage for pirates does not make sense if the transport system makes no sense - for example, if the freighters travel in one straight line to HQ, and the HQ occupies larger than one tile, the effectiveness of using the pirates ability is rather muted.

Things that I would like to see
1) Adjustable game speed and better notifications/audio feedback on events (I mean, come on, the sound of a can being trashed is the sound for a resource surplus?)
2) Ability to "unclaim" a hex
