Even though it is missing quite a lot, it is a great game and I enjoy playing it. The new character system, where your character and all your stuff isn't bound to just one server, is one of the greatest feats of the game. It is missing some vital stuff, but that's just a reminder that the game isn't officially out or finished and should teach us patience. Great job on the game, dev team!

For a moment, let's compare H1Z1 to DayZ. There is complete basebuilding (and not just locking doors), the zombies can horde on you if you're not careful to numbers of 10 and over, scripters are way less of a problem (and they're becoming even less as more patches come out), and the loot economy isn't complete crap. The only real PvP place is Pleasent Valley, mainly around the police station. Everywhere else you're likely to meet the same amount of people. Oh yeah, there's also more than one piece of crap vehicle. While the map is smaller (8km x 8km), there's a lot more people per server so it is expected to get lots of player interaction if you are walking into a town besides it just being completely deserted.
Now in the alpha, one of the most prominent features is Battle Royale. I rate this over even the Arma 3 battle royale mod. For the moment, it is free.

I would much faster compare this game to Rust, but I feel comfortable calling it a DayZ + Rust hybrid. It has the player interactions of DayZ, but the basebuilding and whatnot of Rust. There are also infinite ways to basebuild. You can look in cars or whack the side of a car with a crowbar to obtain scrap metal, and then combine that with a stick to make a makeshift hatchet. The hatchet is good for PvP since it swings fast, but not as useful as the Wood Axe because it takes down trees slower and has less durability. The Wood Axe has more durability, takes down trees faster, but swings slower in a PvP sense.
Along with this, in the recent April 2nd patch you can break down bullets for bullet parts and make bullets of any caliber. This means if you have an AR with no rounds but 20 .45 rounds, you can break them down and re-craft them into .223 rounds.
