click on steam and it freezes my computer all these lil steam helpers all over. Where is a basic package i can just run my games from?

why does steam keep trying to check for game content when leave steam open for a while every time I come back after a while i get this message and it never finishes i have to cansle out and close steam and reopen to play anything

why does steam.exe go to 150k + on task manager when its idle in the tray down by the time making me want to log it out lagging the rest of my computer.... i clicked it open and went back to 40k or so wtf!!!!!!!!!!!
