I changed my mind. Do NOT buy it.

Ch1 came out in 2018, ch2 in 2021, and ch4 in 2025 and it's only HALF of the game, 2/3 of which were free.
This begs the question why does 1/6 of a game cost 25 bucks`? No idea. Perhaps cashing on UT fans. I applaud, I fell for it.
How long should I wait until we get the full story? Hell if I know. We might be all dead in WW3 at that point.

BTW Ch3 is ignored because it has ZERO narrative value. You could throw it all out, and connect ch2 end with a church trip, and the story would lose nothing. Perhaps even gain something, like pacing.

Summing up. Ch1 and ch2 are good, and they are also free. Ch4 is good, but it it really worth 25 bucks? Rhetorical question. You are free to destroy me in the comment section.

I can't believe I haven't left a review on this yet.
Got this game from a friend more than 9 years ago, and it changed my life.

RECOMMENDED ONLY IF YOU JUST PLAYED "THE STANLEY PARABLE" AND THIRST FOR MORE

Time and time again I am faced with a dilemma, whether one can give negative reviews for a free game.
Normally I judge a game based on gameplay, narrative (if any) and price. Sadly, the only redeeming quality here is price, but that does not make it a good game.

Gameplay:
Walking simulator with extra waiting and padding.

Narrative:
1. Very much derivative of TSP, which perhaps was the cat's meow in 2011, but these days post-modern is dime a dozen.
2. Debug text doesn't make a good dialogue box - it's barely visible, and even so only within a certain range.
3. Small talks, in which I can only partake by reading don't really work. It could be nice if I had some kind of goal, that everyone is nudging me towards.
4-X. I wanted to add more critique, but I thought I would be putting more effort into it, than was put in the whole plot of the game, so I won't.

Before I say the final verdict I want to mention that I see that a lot of effort was put into this game, but seemingly in all the wrong places. I DO want to say I like the sound design, but after one hour it felt like nails on the chalkboard to me. Perhaps that's lack of lower frequencies, and saturation with higher ones, which distortion does to the waveform....

So in total, from the narrative perspective (which is the only valid one in walking sims) it is an ambitious but inferior, technically reasonable but uninspired TSP clone, which doesn't even subvert itself by being self-aware like some older TSP clones did.
I imagine if it came out in 2012 or 2015 I would be all over it, but nowadays it doesn't feel exciting anymore.

Sorry

Obviously different to earlier games, but not necessarily bad.
Kudos to noVR team for their work. This good review is mostly thanks to them.

TBH now, 5 years after release, it would have been a good time for Valve to roll out a "lesser" version of HLA for the rest HL fans to enjoy. But of course, Valve would always prefer getting work done for free by volunteers... Well... it's better than C&D'ing modders I guess.

It's alright. Worth buying on a sale.
Pretty short and certainly borrows a lot from predecessors, but a nice narrative experience nonetheless.

Early Access Review
It is in the same state as Wreckfest when it was still called Next Car Game.
Since the devs did such a good job on the first one, I will give this tech demo a thumbs up for now.
The time will tell if my generous review was justified. (Hopefully it was)

Das ideale Vorbild eines Sequels.
Alles was Portal 1 hatte, aber mehr, länger, mit einer besseren Story, neue spannende Mechaniken usw.

Very nice. This could be TSP2 if TSP2 only retained its art direction and british narrator.
I understand that devs might want to set themselves apart from The Stanley Parable, but it's kind of difficult with surrealistic but clean office spaces and League Gothic font on the title.
The good thing is that in its essence it doesn't parasitize on TSP! It's completely different, at least because it's not a barebones walking simulator anymore.
Superliminal is basically a game with The Stanley Parable-like aesthetic and Portal-like puzzles with Antichamber-like logic. Very very good.
The only downside is its length.
