high-octane, intense, thrilling gameplay with a variety of weapons and opportunities for different playstyles with the unlockable masks. Just recently I started getting back into this game and there is something that makes me want to return to it after completing it, be it the achievements, wanting to play through levels differently, use different weapons or complete all the secrets in the game (which i've yet to do). gameplay is great, replay value is great and the story is quite interesting. Absolutely would recommend; you are doing a great disservice to yourself not playing this game
*oh, and i forgot to mention the music; the tracks by MOON, Pertubator, Scattle, El Huervo and more are absolutely stellar. the pulsing bass and sweeping synths in the score really fit the vibe of the game and is very satisfying to listen to. personal favourite tracks of mine are Daisuke, Paris, Hydrogen and Hotline. 👍🏾

Portal 2 is a puzzle-based video game made by Valve in 2011 and is a sequel to the puzzle game with the same name in 2007. In the game, a player must use a tool that creates ‘portals’ to clear several chambers in a testing facility. Each level has the player also make use of physics-based objects like storage cubes, repulsion, propulsion and conversion gels. The story is about a test subject at a facility called ‘Aperture Laboratories’ named Chell who meets a robot that helps her try to escape the facility after being asleep for a long time and destroy an evil robot who controls the entire facility, GLaDOS.

The puzzles in the game were quite difficult but felt rewarding to complete. The difficulty comes from the fact that portals cannot be placed anywhere on the level and can only be placed on ‘portal-able’ white surfaces that the game designers carefully placed. There is even an achievement for the game for completing one of the levels in seventy seconds. The puzzles will escalate in complexity as you continue playing the game, from using pressured buttons to utilising momentum, to using ‘Faith Plates’, high powered launch pads, to using gels that can increase surfaces’ velocity, make surfaces bouncy or ‘convert’ the surface to place portals. The Co-op mode requires you and your friend to work together to complete several puzzles of the same nature as the single-player puzzles except for the fact that you need to work together to complete them.

Portal 2 has great replay value because of features like the challenge mode in the game, which encourages you to complete levels faster, the Co-op mode, where you complete levels with your friends and the Workshop, which has new levels created by the community daily even years after the game is released! When you complete the game, you can choose and download from over 600,000 single-player and 120,000 multi-player (co-op) levels on the workshop that are created by others.

Another thing about Portal 2 I liked was the soundtrack in the game. I thought that the soundtrack was excellent because of the setting in the game being an abandoned test facility. The soundtrack sounds very glitchy and occasionally has some orchestral pieces in songs like Haunted Panels and '(defun botsbuildbots () (botsbuildbots))'. My favourite song in this soundtrack was 'The Friendly Faith Plate'.

Overall, Portal 2 is an excellent puzzle game with balanced difficulty with it’s puzzles which makes you feel clever when you complete a level rather than frustrated when you struggle with it. The atmosphere of the game is achieved with the glitchy, orchestral soundtrack and the overgrown look of the environment. The replay value is fantastic because of the features like the Steam Workshop, which allows people to create and upload their own creations for other people to play. In my opinion: worth your £7! If you also want to know about the developers’ progress and creative process, the e-book “Portal 2 - The Final Hours” is worth buying too (only £1.59).
