I never played much of the original Vermintide and I absolutely hated Vermintide 2 during my first couple play sessions. The game felt far too difficult and unforgiving. Had I purchased the game myself instead of receiving as a gift, I might have likely returned it. But fortunately that wasn't an option. As I learned the mechanics, unlocked equipment/talents. and rose to the challenge of each difficulty level, I found a surprisingly deep and enjoyable co-op game. The animations, character dialogue, and physicality of the melee combat are all excellent. Fatshark did well here. There is only Warhammer.
