This game used to be my favorite online experience

USED TO BE

For years now the game has been completely unplayable, overrun with bots that are designed to make people quit the game. And for years now, Valve have done absolutely nothing that remotely comes close to dealing with the issue.

In fact, the game is abandoned. The only updates being made are ones that introduce new lootboxes. Valve continue to milk this once beloved by millions game, while not even doing as much as lifting a finger. They aren't even playing the maps they add once. I'm not sure they are even launching the game at all, perhaps just running some automated tests to make sure it doesn't crash before pushing these cash-grab "updates".

TF2 is no longer on life support. The life support has been disconnected, and the patient is suffocating to death while the doctor stands by and throws random objects at the patient, while pocketing the money donated to save the patient.

I was very worried that this game would feel like a cringe spin-off that just rips DRG assets and doesn't get how DRG is supposed to feel.

I am pleased to say that this is absolutely not the case. Funday Games nailed it. It feels like a DRG game.

It's not PERFECT yet, I would definitely like to see some gameplay tweaks (the timer appearing after you kill the boss and the boss itself appearing after you kill enough enemies discourages you from killing enemies, which sucks) and more variety in upgrades (particularly more "synergies" and "builds" being possible), but they have managed the hardest part. I'm sure all these tweaks will come in time.

For how low the game is priced, I definitely recommend it for any DRG fan for a taste of something different.

This is the first Portal 2 mod I have ever played that has the "test chamber elements SING the soundtrack to you" aspect from Portal 2. Every other mod forgets it. Instant S tier!

The level design is absolutely beautiful, the new test elements don't seem like the "flashy new thing", instead they perfectly make sense and fit right in with the base game elements! The story isn't "groundbreaking", but the voice acting and the writing is nice, and you get a lot of voice lines that constantly keep you engaged with the story.

The actual puzzles are pretty easy, but they succeed in giving you that "okay, that's a cool solution!" feeling. And, despite there being 4 entirely new testing elements not seen in Portal 2, this feeling actually comes from the super creative use of mechanics that were in the base game, but the applications of which were never explored! Like how the button to reset the cube can be used as more than just a fallback in case you get stuck and can actually be part of the solution, or how covering the cube in propulsion gel can actually help it slide, etc. I never got the feeling that the new test elements and concepts stayed there for too long, in fact, I feel like some of them actually still have unexplored potential.

Overall a fantastic mod that would be worth paying for if this was DLC to the base game. Except it's free, so absolutely zero reasons not to play through it!

An amazing game that's a lot deeper than it seems on the surface!

I was initially worried that there won't be much substance, since the upgrade tree didn't seem that big or decision-heavy, but I was completely wrong!

Not only are there gadgets you find during each playthrough with each having its own upgrade tree, but also the dome and the keeper you start with are the least complicated ones in the game, just so that you can get your bearings straight. Once you start playing with the other domes, and especially the Assessor - this game gets a lot more interesting, the upgrade trees - a lot bigger, and each playthrough - much more unique!

I love the fact that the difficulty level is completely separate from the world size. You can have a relaxing game lasting an hour or more where you get to upgrade everything to max, or a quick 30-minute run at max difficulty, where failing won't suck as much!

Drilling, moving materials around, using different abilities as the Assessor, using the dome weaponry to fight off the enemies, and finally cracking open the relic vault - all activities are accompanied by the most pleasant visual and auditory feedback, making the core gameplay feel engaging and smooth.

Unlike Wall World, this game works perfectly on the Steam Deck, with all the text being easily readable. If you have a Deck - this game is a must-have!

This game is a must-play.

Every second of every round of SBTF you are constantly on the edge. There's only so much ammo for your weapons on the map, only so many repair stations, only so many bullets in the sentries, only so much beating a door can take before it's destroyed, but the enemies are INFINITE. Shooting your gun nearly blinds you, but not shooting it at the right time causes an instant game-over, so you naturally become a trigger-crazy maniac that sprays random corridors because you thought something moved there as you play the game. Which, as you would expect, causes friendly fire issues! You'll really be needing those repair stations.

When you start playing the game, you will certainly be very slow and tactical. Coordinating with your teammates to hold corridors, then making pushes together into a difficult spot, firing left and right as you try to get that sentry online. But as the difficulty increases, staying back and waiting for that perfect moment just isn't viable anymore - you have to YOLO it! And being constantly pushed into situations where you are not sure if you're going to survive, but the alternative is to stay back and watch the ammo counter tick down until your inevitable demise is the quintessential experience of SBTF. Clutching a round in this game feels GOOD. And even failures are fun.

The entire game is very configurable. You can tweak the map generator and the game difficulty as much as you like, to get that perfect experience. Want the true "if you don't move and do the objective, you WILL RUN OUT OF BULLETS AND DIE" experience? Turn off the laser fences, the only thing capable of holding enemies at bay forever. Or maybe let the map generator go crazy with large open spaces where you have to hold 4 angles at a time!

This game was obviously designed with multiplayer in mind. Some pushes are impossibly difficult if you are alone. But it's fun even solo. Also it's the only co-op game I played that lets you see your friends' POVs on your screen as you play! Hearing your friend scream on Discord as you see his screen light up with gunfire and his character's "adrenaline" spike to max is one of those precious gaming moments that this game delivers.

A big gameplay issue I had with this game was that you got stronger as you played by getting upgrades, but the game did not scale in difficulty unless you manually cranked it up, which made surviving several games in a row boring. Well, with the new "weekly grind" system that has been resolved!

The bad things I have to say about this game are pretty much entirely technical. The programmer for this game must have been insane. This game uses deterministic lock-step to handle multiplayer! If one person lags or their internet drops out for a second - the whole game freezes. The game is hard-locked at 60 fps to make the system work. The game audio has wild bugs, sometimes the game randomly loops a sound at 400% volume causing blood to come out of your ears. And many more technical oddities that make this game randomly fall apart as you play it. But is putting up with these issues worth it? Absolutely.

If you want to play on Linux - the game runs much better with Proton-GE than with the stock version, which has fullscreen issues. Use "protontricks 357330 dsound" to fix one of the earrape audio bugs on Linux.

This is less of an expansion like Frozen Factory was, and more of a set of thing to spice up your game if you have already played through the game before and want something new.

I really like the idea of mutators. Unfortunately, there is absolutely zero way to tell what a mutator actually does. For example I still have no idea what "Important CPH" means, and I probably won't up until I decide to try it. Some of the mutators are just stupid and crazy, some of them are minor tweaks, but some (like the new skylands world generator!) are truly a new way to experience the game!

The T4 turret looks and sounds AMAZING. Unfortunately, it's entirely useless - it uses almost as much power as charging the OET itself, while it can't reliably defend against bosses even with help from T3 turrets. BUT, I have a solution! Check out my Steam Workshop page on my profile - there's a mod that buffs these turrets as well as "fixing" (more like side-stepping) some visual/auditory annoyances with them. Now you finally have a somewhat viable alternative to missiles! (with the mod at least). Again, plays into the idea of giving you alternative ways to play the game.

The freight carts are really nice. They take a lot of getting used to and have a lot of annoying quirks (why is there no way to make the stations only request items in batches of 25? sending a cart every time even a single item is missing clogs up the network for no reason), but relaxing and watching an automatic logistics system work cannot be beat. Make sure to research "minecart logistics" and use the booster rails from there! Otherwise the carts will be painfully slow!

The bots... are weird. I will probably try the robot mutator at some point to truly delve into them. They are definitely useless when conveyor belts are available.

I would say - if you're just starting the game and just want to get the important parts of the FCE experience - you can hold off on this DLC. However, if you have already played through the base game and Frozen Factory and are looking for more ways to enjoy the game again - this DLC might just be for you!

The last time I was so obsessed with a game was when I was playing modded Minecraft for 3 months in a row.

Please don't let the fact that the game shoves Platinum purchases in your face turn you away! You can play (and not just play, actually enjoy, unlike other F2P games) the entire game and all of its content for 100% free! (And oh boy, is there A LOT OF CONTENT)

You can play this game on a Steam Deck (runs at a constant 60 fps at High settings, insanely well optimized) with your brain turned off and farm dopamine as you slash through hords of Infected, or you could tryhard with precision weaponry in a squad in Discord and reap the benefits of punching above your level.

If you haven't tried this game - seriously give it some time to check it out. It's free! And if you like it and want to make the experience perfect - buy a little bit of platinum and add slots and maybe forma/orokin reactors. Don't buy the weapons or warframes, you can unlock them all by playing the game without an obscene amount of grind - hunting for parts is fun!

This game is an improvement over Bioshock 1 in basically every single way. (Nearly) everything that was annoying and frustrating in that game's gameplay has been reworked or removed entirely and replaced by something new. The story is great, and while it doesn't contain a shocking revelation like the first game I feel like it's better off that way as to not feel like a spinoff repeating the steps of the original.

The biggest complaints I have are:
1) THE GAME CRASHES! Not once, not twice, but periodically, and the closer you get to the end - the more often the crashes occur. Trying one of the remedies in the Steam Guides helped a lot, but still didn't completely remove crashes.
2) The annoying issue with equipped plasmids shifting around and changing assigned keys with no obvious way to fix it whenever you upgrade one of the plasmids still persists in this game. The only thing in terms of gameplay where there wasn't an improvement
3) This game certainly has power creep. Not nearly as bad as in Prey (2017), and it only really becomes an issue very late in the game, but it's still a thing.

Highly recommend the game to everyone, especially if you liked the original but were annoyed by some gameplay quirks. I would say, however, that perhaps playing the original (non-remastered) version is a good idea to avoid the crashes.

This game at every turn is giving me everything that I felt missing from Elite Dangerous.

- Ship interiors? Check.
- Persistent NPC ships, which don't just "spawn" but get actually built and flown where needed? Check.
- Actual economy, where different resources can be in different supply in different areas, stations that actually have purpose, eve-like "everything you see was actually built from raw materials" feeling? Check!
- Vastly differently sized ships, with even "medium" ships being several times larger than small ones? Check!
- Ability to actually pilot any ship, up to and including MASSIVE fleet carriers? Suck it, Elite!
- Building your own stations? Sure! Owning your own sectors? Also yes!
- Being able to actually order your ships around and have massive fleets active at a time, instead of being bound to a single ship at a time? YES!

The combat is not as good, the mining is not as fun, but it doesn't have to be. Instead the fun is in the completely removed limits and the ability to own and order around anything you see in the game. The only space game I have ever played where trading is actually fun!

Now, it's not perfect. Biggest of all - this game performs ATROCIOUSLY. I'm talking 20 FPS at times with a Ryzen 5 5600 and RX 6900 XT. AI is not very intelligent, and certain voodoo magic with giving orders is required to make them do what you want sometimes. But it's still everything I was missing from every space game I have ever played, so I am loving this. Already planning my next playthrough!

Unlike DMZ, this really does play like "Tarkov lite", but in a good way. It never feels like you are playing a knock-off - this game has its own unique style. The graphics, the sounds, the gunplay, the map design - everything is unique and distinctly different from other games of the genre.

There used to be a lot of cheaters. However, the devs came up with an amazing system that returns all gear lost to cheaters! There's also now a "Trust Factor" system like in CS:GO

The newest patch has resolved my biggest gripe with the game - MMR is now based on K/D and not Loot Value, so you will no longer be punished for picking up good loot. And in the next Season they promise LOADOUTS!! Something that NEITHER Tarkov, DMZ or Marauders has TO THIS DAY.

I was concerned after the rocky start the game had, but now I can see the devs are committed and the game has a bright future ahead!
