Great game. I prefer playing it on my phone more than at my PC.

Devs are super awesome, friendly, and responsive on their Discord.

10/10 would throw a 🐢 through a broken 🪟 onto a 🛋️ in a 🚚 again, and then smack my friend to celebrate. 🙃

Check out the demo first to see if you like it and if Remote Play works for you, which it did for me. Don't forget to enable the keyboard for the remote player in the overlay.

Also, I recommend the remote and/or less experienced gamer use the Player 1 slot, and the hosting and/or more experienced gamer use the Player 2 slot. This is because when on-screen hints for keybinds pop up, they only show the Player 1 keybinds, and they're more natural.

Played singleplayer for a few hours.

Pros:
* Super cool to tame, ride, and fight dinos once you get the hang of it.
* Gathering resources is easy
* Building is pretty straightforward and cool.
* Sounds like there's some good mods.

Cons:
* Unintuitive interface and commands
* Stupidly punishing if you encounter an animal you don't know about. You (and your dinos) can just randomly die from an OP enemy charging you from distance.
* If you die, the problematic dino can just camp your body, making it impossible to retrieve before your body items before they time out in 15 minutes and disappear
* There's no logic to handle when your tamed dinos are out of visible range, so if you die or get too far away, you might never find them again. And some of them seem to easily get stuck on things when trying to follow you.

TLDR:
Pretty fun and unique if you don't take it very seriously. Some mods would probably avoid some of the frustrating bits. Buy it for a few hours of fun on a heavily discounted sale.

The "this is fine" meme, if it were a game.

Writing this review after 200 hours of many ups and downs.

Personally, the only way I think you can enjoy this game consistently, is if you play PVE exclusively, don't mind playing without a specific objective in mind, don't mind running for hours to get places, don't mind a frustrating crafting/trading/navigation/chat interface, don't mind having a second monitor dedicated to 3rd party websites so you can figure out what you're doing, and don't mind adjusting your physical GPU settings to avoid it bricking. And don't mind spending hundreds of hours to reach the end game.

~~PROS~~

* My above list defines a narrow window for enjoyment, yes, but a lot of the game does fall into it.
* This game can certainly be fun, and especially with friends.
* Certain enemies and map locations/activities I really enjoyed.
* The world has a lot of detail and clearly a lot of work was put into it (structures and mob areas are copy-pasted, but if you're running around in the world, it's very diverse and beautiful).
* Subjective, but compared to some other open-world games I've played, I've been pleasantly surprised by how relatively few lag spikes I've had and few times I've gotten stuck on objects or had things seriously bug out in the open world

~~CONS~~

1. Frustrating Gameplay
* If you have a goal in mind, the game will soft-block you from doing it and require a time investment from you. Want to travel to a town and back? It can cost more than 100% of your fast travel currency, so you have to spend 30-60 minutes running there and back. Want to level up your smelting station? Well, you're going to need a specific kind of refining material, which will require hours of running. So instead, the only way to play this game, is to just...keep playing it slowly, with its artificially inflated time requirements at each level along the way, designed to maximally take as long as you could handle, but just giving you enough reward to make you feel like you're almost there. And that's where this game subtly steals your time.
* Traversing the map is truly awful in a lot of cases. There's constantly cliffs blocking your path that you can't climb more than halfway up, and making you go all the way back around large areas. Other areas you have to walk through water, but you can't "swim" so you have to risk drowning to cross a small river or traverse a swampy area.
* The game balance of even the main story quests needs another pass. For example, a main quest that's level 43 can only be entered if you currently are on that quest, so your friends cannot help you. Inside, the enemies are level 48. This higher-level enemy problem is a regular occurrence. The only way you would know this, is by going in and dying, costing you money and resources. Worse, enemies throughout the world respawn sometimes only a few seconds after killing them, which means you have to be over-geared to complete them.
* Some *fundamental* choices you make are permanent, and irreversible, without telling you. Town Standing lets you choose between certain town bonuses at each level, but it doesn't tell you what the options will be until you reach the level, or how many levels there are, or that certain bonuses are capped, so if you skip them, you can never get them again, like storage. You can never re-spec Town Standing, so if (as I did) I skipped storage several times early on, my late game storage ability in this town is lower than other end-game characters. Wait what? Yes, your choices at level 3, an hour after purchasing this game, become frustrations that irreversibly affect your gameplay, some 200 hours later.

2. Terrible Interface
* The only way to play the game is to have a second monitor with 3rd party data-mined wikis, maps, and crafting recipies, and then cross-reference with what you have in-game. Because the game won't tell you much of anything about what you own, where you're going, or even where to go.
* You can't see where resources are on the map, unless they're within 10 or so meters of you. There's no indication of resources on the map, buildings are not labeled in town, and there's not even a minimap.
* The UI for crafting is awful. You have no idea how to make things, what makes what, or where they come from. An Apple is a Tier 5 common item. That's all you get to know about it. Not what recipes it's used in, not how to obtain it, not where to find it if you need in the future, not even where/how you got it if you do have one. And if you leave the Apple screen, you have to search for it again.
* The UI for buying/selling is awful. Did you manage to sell something? Well if you weren't online at the moment and looking at the screen, there's no way to find out what it was, because you can't sort your sold items by date sold. Also, there's no easy way to see which towns you have items for sale at. Also, sorting by time remaining sorts by text, not by the actual time, so you'll see things like "1 hour, 14 hours, 2 hours, 20 hours", etc. Even alphabetical sorting is gibberish sorting at times. And there's very limited filtering and searching options.

3. Graphics Problems
* New World broke physical GPUs. AGS denied it, despite videos of it happening and hardware youtubers like Jayztwocents showing the problems. GPU manufacturers said it was, and allowed RMAs of broken devices. I've been running my 3080 TI at 70% power limit, because otherwise it consistently draws nearly 15% MORE watts than the card's physical limits, which will decrease it's lifespan even if it doesn't burn up. And the in-game FPS limiter doesn't even seem to work.
* Nauseating graphical performance. Even without limiting my 3080 TI, in town I get widly varying FPS at 1440p with max settings. As in, constantly fluctuating between 24-42 fps. It's actually nauseating when it varies that much. And the camera constantly zooms in and out as you pass objects that affect elevation like bridges, or things get near the camera, like walls and gates.

4. Exploits, Bugs, and Glitches (why the sky is falling right now)
* AGS and parts of the community suppressed and ignored game-breaking exploits for a month until literally every pipe is spewing water and they can't close the holes fast enough. Reddit is burning to the ground. Gold is meaningless. Item rarity is meaningless. The list of PVP weapon damage exploits is growing instead of shrinking. The entire front page of Reddit is covered with different game-breaking exploits every day. There's new exploits caused by each fix for previous exploits, and all they're doing at this point is annoying the real customers. Heck, disabling the Trading Post and blocking gold transfers caused a new gold exploit to emerge, probably because the game wasn't coded well enough to handle the scenario where they had to shut down the entire gold economy.
* A number of game-breaking bugs were reported in the beta, numerous times, and AGS hasn't fix them. Like, some people can't complete certain quests.
* People have gotten there characters stuck while transferring servers, or in special game events, preventing them from playing the game for days.

~~FINAL THOUGHTS~~

"But, look at how much gameplay time you get for your money" -- to which I say, "Yes, look at how much time it cost me to play this game".

I said it 10 hours in, and I'll say it at 200 hours in. This is the worst game I've ever played even remotely this long. And the only reason I have, is because a lot of the time, you can literally become the "this is fine" meme and have a fun PVE loop of running around, collecting some things, doing some quests, and calling it a day.

Let's just hope you don't hate yourself for looking up a month later, and realizing you are a month older, and while you finally progressed to the final levels in game, you didn't progress your actual real life. monkaS dude.

Amazing. Loved OMD1 & OMD2, and this continues a great series.

There needs to be more detail on the DPS, cooldowns, etc of each trap in-game though. The details don't seem to be published anywhere.

Awesome! But it makes you always appear in steam like you're playing a game, and can't turn it off that I've figured out. So I don't recommend buying it on Steam.
