As of release I'd probably say 7/10. But I think this game more as an investment. The best is yet to come as patches and eventually the modding community gets their hands on it. As is I've played 40+ hours and probably only halfway through it so its well worth it for single player game by length alone.

This game is fun, but it does require a few things before getting the full enjoyment. Having a mic for squad, local, and command chat is super important. Knowing what each role does and how it interacts is good too. Its not really COD, it takes team work to some extent to really have the best time. Playing with a friend group is ideal but solo play may have some good times too if you find a squad of mics.

I really have enjoyed this game. I was hesitant at first with the change from fantasy to sci-fi, and it still seems like they could have called it something else. But the gameplay is enough to overrule these worries. Its a great, fun, game and will only get better with the planned dlc.

Update: Every dlc so far has been great IMO. Adding new races/techs/game concepts. I sometimes feel like their could be more done but have been satisfied. Hopefully they continue to support this game and maybe start work on Age of Wonders 4 return to fantasy setting.

This game works well because the differences in the armies. Each faction plays fairly unique and distinct from each other. Now the DLC policy isn't my favorite and the Free LC kind of makes up for it some, but the beauty of it is you don't have to buy the packs if you dont want to play that army. I don't really have an interest in beastmen, so I didn't buy it. I still get to fight them in campaign and against friends in MP.
And besides you can always a little while and it will probably go on some sale if you are really that reluctant to pay full price. I did and I think it is worth it.
