Battleborn is a bit of a sad case, to be frank. The game itself is alright, and definitely appeals to the same sort of crowd as more popular games like overwatch, Borderlands(which is fitting as it's made by the same company) or even dota to a certain degree, but it's overshadowed status essentially turned it into the punchline of many an internet joke. Despite this, however, it is definitely worth looking into at least once especially now that it has a free-to-play status rather than the admittedly overpriced $60 tag it once carried.

TERA is an MMO for those who aren't as focused on story as raw gameplay, and that becomes more obvious as it goes on. The storytelling itself is good, but it's certainly nothing to write home about as it involves some storytelling cliches about as old as the dawn of time. It can also get lengthy as sometimes you have to actually walk from place to place(This can be solved mostly by teleportals and pegasi rides, but those aren't always available) and unless you have something to kill along the way it might drag on a little. But where the game Excels and why many enjoy this so much is the fast-paced combat system. While similar to other MMOs of this kind, TERA allows the player to string abilities together to form fast, powerful combos where skills can be executed more quickly than if they were cast seperately. this culminates into a pseudo-Dynasty Warriors fighting system that is satisfying to pull off especially as some of the more melee-oriented characters like the recent Valkyrie class. While there are some arbitrary restrictions on some of the classes, each one offers a unique fighting style that works well when combined with groups of other, varying types. On top of all this, newer players getting the game on steam have the option of getting a free starter pack that gives them plenty of goodies like a seven day XP booster and a free green hood. Overall, TERA's strong point is the combat mechanics while everything else is good, but not great. While those looking for a deep, intricate story on the same level as Guild Wars 2 might shy away, Those looking for a fun, viceral combat experience are more than welcome to play this game.

Revenge is a dish best served dusty.

Seriously though, the game itself is on the better side of meh. Gameplay works well enough, and the different forms of combat do fine on their own, but it really isn't anything to write home about. Same goes for the art and music. they aren't awful, but there are games similar to this that look much better. story's simple enough, some guy has a bad thing happen to him, and he's out to get the guy that caused it in all his edgy glory. If you really want a beat-em-up where you play as a western gunslinging, scythe-wielding bunny/human(there's a free DLC that allows you to make that change), it does the job well enough. If you absolutely NEED to get this game, it's on sale for $4.99 at the time of my writing of this review and it's the best price i can think of for a game like this. Otherwise, it's best to wait for it to go on sale again if you really, really, really want this game.

Pheonix Force is a top-down shoot-em-up in the same vein as Touhou and Galaga. You use your mouse to move the character around and try to dodge anything that's coming towards you as your Pheonix automatically fires back at the targets without having to press any buttons. for 4.99(0.49 cents at the time of writing this review), it's an engaging action game that's light on story and is certainly more than enough to keep you occupied for a good, long while.

While it is, in some ways, much like any other team based fps games, it makes up for it with hilarious personalities for each of the playable characters as well as a wide range of both cosmetic and useful items that you can use to customize them to your liking.
