The setting, the aesthetic - its like the team hit a home run and then decided to give up before rounding third.

The Not Recommend is based majority on the fact that development has been suspended "indefinitely."

EA launch was plagued by serious/serious issues, including lack of really basic UI elements for a Colony/Survival type game.

Subsequent patches and communication with the team were honestly stellar, but ultimately they're putting this one on the shelf and instead focusing on other projects.

Sincerely hope they come back to this one in time - the SBY style is something that resonates with a larger audience than they are given credit for.

Labor of Love every year, CA is a true gift.

Legendary

The most thorough recreation of D&D available to date. Still plenty of QoL improvements needed and other mundane issues that are frustrating/head scratching considering the level of detail elsewhere.

The same dungeon/building can be both outstandingly polished and have objects that are awkward to interact with/unintuitive.

Definitely Recommend, mod at your own peril. If not a huge fan of cRPG, wait for a sale.

Base game leaves a lot to be desired, especially if you're a franchise vet. Faithful to the universe, robots are big, stompy, and prone to just a little accidental war criming. Campaign is inoffensively bland - sandbox will (probably) be the meat and potatoes.

Mods are absolutely essential, vanilla is very stripped down compared to BT, or even MWO.

Mechs/weapon design are 10/10, if you're a fan of the MechLab, mod it to oblivion and have at it.

If you ever wanted XCOM with less aliens, more guns, and some really saucy VA, look no further.

Scratches a supremely niche itch, but boy does it scratch.

Community is simultaneously the best/worst. Don't read WarChat.

Fits usual Paradox Model:

- Fun? Yes
- Incomplete/Borked Systems at Release? Yes
- Worth full price at Release? No/Debatable
- Will DLC be mandatory at some point? Probably

Buy on Sale, or wait 4 years and get in a bundle with the 9999 DLCs that been released.

Core gameplay is solid, music/art design are fantastic

BUT

Strong NOT RECOMMENDED as of time of this review (Dec 26 2022)

End Game loop is basically non-existent, fairly poor variety in terms of weapons/classes

Monetization/Cash Shop is fully implemented while weapon crafting is "Coming Soon" | says enough about priorities

If you're a huge 40k Fan you WILL enjoy the aesthetic and world design, but casual gamers looking for the next L4D should wait for a sale.
