The original Risk of Rain was one of my first experiences in PC Indie Gaming, and it left quite an impression on me. From its stylistic character design, to the 2d side-scrolling ability spam fest, and an ending with music so beautifully appropriate it ended up permanently etched into my mind. So, when Hopoo Games, a studio of 4!!!! Individuals announced they were making a 2nd game and it would be 3d, I was all for it. I haven't written a review for this game yet, but I've owned it since it was first available in early access and with its first DLC on the horizon I think its time. Theirs a lot of reasons why I think this game is one of my favorites, and why it succeeds so much over its predecessor, which in its own right is fantastic:

The transition from 2d to 3d while keeping its style is incredible. From the ability usage, to the items, it all feels amazing as your character transcends into a beast until you either beat the game or loop until you die.
With the items you can feel that rush of getting a red on stage 1, or simply feeling happy at finally getting those damn crit glasses for when you desperately need one. Every item serves a purpose that benefits you in a very direct, observable way.
Plenty of secrets to unlock and explore, from hidden stages, characters, and items, it can keep you busy for a long time.
A wide variety of characters that all allow for a distinct play-style while also having switchable abilities that changes elements of their kit.
It is one of the best soundtracks that I've ever heard. From the active teleporter boss jams, to the quiet serenity of the earlier stages, to the absolutely fantastic finale of ...con lentitud poderosa it's an incredible listening experience, every time.
Easily accessible coop through steam, alongside the new addition of challenge modes for people who want that extra difficulty or variety in their runs,

So, should YOU buy this game? 100%. Play a few rounds on your own to get the hang of it, then once you inevitably get hooked, tell all your friends to buy it, and jam out with them. Your music will be electric.
