Another JRPG game? Yes — and another great one.
As a long-time fan of RPGs, I can say Ys Origin delivers a rich and captivating story, told from the unique perspectives of multiple characters. This isn’t your average RPG where you just mash the same buttons over and over. If you’ve played any Ys game before, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

The controls are simple — easy as 1, 2, 3 — but the challenge comes from mastering them. There are five difficulty modes: Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, and the punishing Nightmare. A first-time playthrough on Nightmare can easily take 30 hours, and it’s tough. Button-mashing alone won’t cut it; you’ll need skill, timing, and strategy.

You can play as three different characters, each with unique skills, combat styles, and yes… even different outfits (lol). The variety adds replay value, though I’ll admit one downside — much of the dialogue is the same across characters, so while the combat feels fresh, the story beats can feel repetitive.

From the artwork to the cutscenes, it’s clear this game was built with creativity and passion. Honestly, I can’t say I like it — I love it. There’s plenty to do, and boredom never really sets in. After finishing the main game, you’ll unlock extra modes like Arena and Boss Rush, perfect for those chasing that 100% completion (good luck — you’ll need it).

Final verdict: If you haven’t played this yet, you’re missing out on one of the best RPG experiences out there. 8/10.
