Nearly two years and lots of promises later this game is still a mess.

Pedestrians spawning on highways, every second npc on the street is the same model despite high graphics settings, holocalls often overlap and cut off quest dialogue or the other way around... Thankfully nothing gamebreaking, but can you really be thankful for that? Is it really ok for a title of this level to barely function the way it is meant to?

At it's best I'm having loads of fun. Night city is a solid enviroment with beautiful details. Npcs are just empty husks roaming the streets but who cares about that honestly. Gunplay feels good to me and the system for leveling and perks is perfectly fine once you understand it. And most importantly I find the writing and story gripping and enjoyable, truly a game I could sit playing for hours and hours.

But how am I meant to do that when my companion shoots an imaginary anti-air missile?
When corpo assault team sweeps into a building you're hiding in and your companion... T-poses in a corner?
When you end up negotiating with a decapitated security guard about him to letting you in to a compound?

Your immersion breaks at nearly every cutscene, at every scripted event I find myself thinking what is gonna go wrong this time.

Save your money, this is not the game we were looking for and it will never be so.

Update:

Phantom Liberty and version 2.0 happened and after nearly 90 hours of playtime I stand corrected.
Game is in a much healthier place glitch-wise, I love the new Cybernetics system and all in all the whole game is now very enjoyable.

However I am keeping the review negative as I feel it took unforgivably long to get here and business model where an unfinished product gets shipped and hopefully gets fixed in the next few years cannot be allowed to take root.

Bit glitchy at some points and somewhat lacking the atmosphere of previous Metros, but the story make up for it.

One of the best RPGs I have played.
On my 4th playtrough and the game still hasn't gotten too stale, apart from the early guests.

RS2 is lacking the hook that keeps you playing it, you've seen pretty much everything the game has to offer after 20h.
Also the game at it's current (and knowing Tripwire, most likely nearly finished) state is definetly not worth 20€.

-Only 5 major maps
-Bugs that have been around since the release of RO2 in 2011 and many new ones.
-Poor hit detection that the developers are trying to sell as a feature, which I truly would love to get behind but it simply doesn't feel like an intended thing and usually ends up in quitting the game rather than need of getting better with the game mechanics.

I have good stuff to say aswell, communication system has been enhanced a lot, game is beautiful to look at and new player roles bring a whole new level of gameplay in.

All in all:
Unfinished game that has potential is pretty to look at, but only enjoyable with friends after reasonable alcohol consumption.
I would highly suggest not even considering buying it before the price goes under 10€.

Author has 1300+h in RO2/RS1

Edit (29.11.2017): After a long while got back to playing RS2, experience feels much smoother and some bugs are less visible if not fixed. The Bushranger Update brought some much needed variety to map pool (altough it is still very homogenous and unvaried, but getting better).

Edit (26.3.2019): I have been recently getting more and more hours in and as it currently stands the game has become much more enjoyable, maps are starting to be much more varied, gameplay has been enhanced and no longer causes rage and frustration over gamebreaking bugs and issues with base mechanics.
Don't get me wrong bugs are still there and most likely will to an extent stay there, but they are no longer as much in your face and rarely ruin your game. As of recent changes in my experience with the game I am changing my review as positive.
