lovely graphics and art style, and the music is really fitting and easing. however, from start to finish i beat this game in about 30 minutes. i was completely surprised at the end when it turned out that i beat it, you only need 8 feathers to beat the game, which takes very little time to get. there isn't enough content to warrant a $7 price tag, the game should be around $3-$4, which is why i am leaving a negative review even though i had fun.

I was really hoping that this game would change the genre of survival and take that next big step for the medieval survival and RPG future for gaming. However, I saw that the game was currently just combat and big battles, so I initially hesitated on purchasing - however, I saw that "The Epic" would be released in 5 days on the day that I looked at the game, so I said what the hell and bought the game thinking that the mode would be available before I went back to school and I could have some fun conquering other players.

Unfortunately what happened is that after waiting 5 days for the big launch, going into the combat gamemodes Conquest and Duel just to practice combat for the release, when it came to launch day they added an extra 24 hours for development. I figured that was appropriate and while I was upset it was probably a lot of work to make a big gamemode with an unexpected explosion of players joining the servers, so I waited patiently. Come actual launch day, or launch hour I suppose considering the 24 hour clock had a live countdown, when you clicked "THE EPIC"in the menu it changed to "THE EPIC will start soon." I was very excited to play, and since it said it will start soon I expected it to be roughly 30 minutes. 2 hours later, after the 24 hour proposed deadline that THEY set, you could finally play "The Epic." Except, when I clicked to play it, it brought me to an open ocean and then told me that I couldn't connect. I was pretty upset considering how long I'd been waiting for the game, but I accepted it and waited another day. The day after launch I launched up Of Kings and Men and tried to play. Finally, when I launched it this time, I could choose my...faction? Wait a minute, I thought that you were going to make your own factions with your friends? That's why they had a Factions page on the forums? Whatever, I'm probably misinformed about that (even though I read most of what they released for the Epic and it said nothing about 4 preset factions). I choose "The Empire" and click okay. Finally, I'm in The Epic - the game I've been waiting for. Except, in the top of the screen, it says "PAUSED GAME - WARMUP PERIOD." Warmup period? What the ♥♥♥♥ is that supposed to mean? I try to look around the map and all I can do is zoom in and out and rotate the map. When I click on something there's no signs of anything being actually interactable. I go on the Of Kings and Men forums. The head developer released a post talking about how he's sorry for the botched launch of The Epic, and that you actually can't play it right now and all you can do is look at the map. He said that his crew has been working soo soo much during the past week, and they are going to take the week off from developing. I launch the game again and click "The Epic." It now says "THE EPIC is delayed for ATLEAST another 7 days :(".

Needless to say, I was extremely upset when I couldn't refund the game after practicing for 12 hours getting ready for the release of The Epic. This is one of the most unprofessional development teams I've had the displeasure of giving my money to, and now that they delayed the game for ATLEAST another week I've decided to write this review because when I tried to talk to the people on the subreddit or in-game about it I got completely ostracized and was told to stop whining and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. So, not only does this game have a toxic community, but the developers are not only cash grabbers but give unfulfilled promises.

2/10, interesting combat system

I'm only recommending this game because of the optimization. It was really well done and I like seeing it from early games. However, the game itself I do not recommend. The audio is so annoying that my brother and I ended up muting the entire game to play. Even in VR it's still a boring game, too.
