Played through the demo some time ago now, normally do not leave reviews because I'm pretty terrible at leaving feedback but I thought I may as well for this one. I usually consider myself an average gamer who tries to play on harder difficulties nowadays, I don't really consider myself good at anything other than maybe flight sims lol, but after some time I do get attuned to a games movement system and difficulty so it just becomes a normal game to me. Example being I've been playing and enjoying classic Dwarf Fortress both in fortress and adventure mode since at least 2014, but I've had experience with it as far back as 2009.

Anyways, my overall impressions is this feels likes a much goofier Ultima UW or Arx Fatalis and i'm all for it. Ever since I played Arx Fatalis I've been searching for more games like it but I'm either bad at searching or they simply do not exist. I've always liked non linear map progression in the vein of immersive sims and metroidvanias, I'm also a big fan of people who take the time to create whole worlds with small civilizations working with or fighting one another. It'd be interesting in seeing the protagonist come into an active war between these civilizations and act as a mercenary, with each death of the protagonist allowing the player to pick a different side. That sounds like a lot of work to implement, but its fun to dream. Hopefully Neverlooted turns into a Arx 2 live what I've been looking for.

having mostly all IL2 games, this is a great addition to the franchise, even if i'm 3/4 years late buying it.

As of writing this review it is 11/22/2017, and I nomitated Combat Air Patrol 2 because this game has the scope of everything I needed to see in a game. I mean when I first read that you'll be able to command the LHA fleet around, I immediately locked eyes with this game. I've been looking for years for a "Silent Hunter" esque game that instead of submarine commanding, you commanded a carrier which is arguably a lot more challenging. Now i'm pretty sure the devs will most likely not add in a "supercarrier" such as the Nimitz, Enterprise, or Forrestal Class carriers, but it will greatly expand the game, even if you can't fly the aircraft you launch or recover. But again, the carrier we have right now is a LHA or Landing Helicopter Assault, or to go deeper a Tarawa Class Landing Helicopter Assault is good enough. Basically this ship is built for the marines, it houses a Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is the smallest Marine air-ground task force in the United States Marines. This carrier is designed from the ground up to assault places, and the main plane you fly is basically designed for operations off this type of carrier, the AV-8B+.

The AV-8B+, or Harrier II is a very hard plane to fly, Well not really. During take offs and landings yes this plane is very difficult to fly, especially during vertical landings which the thing acts as a hovering brick which this game captures pretty well in my opinion. Now the harrier is not a Fighter by any means, on paper every other american plane of similar era out performs it by alot, mainly because they were designed from the ground up for aerial combat, the aircraft I speak of are the F/A-18, F-14, F-15, and F-16. But aircraft capability doesn't mean pilot ability. Within a week of writing this review, Razbam which is a flight simulation company is releasing a module for Digital Combat Simulator, or DCS that contains a different model of the AV-8B+, known as the AV-8B N/A, which is the night attack version of the harrier. The only difference the + and the N/A have is the + has a radar, but that doesnt mean the N/A isn't as good. I can guarantee you that next week people jumping in Harriers in DCS are going to mop up F-15s, SU-27s, MiG-29s, the works. So flown correctly this plane is a monster.

But the harrier isnt the only aircraft onboard a LHA, you also got a number of helicopters. To name a few you got the, CH-46 Sea Knight which is a medium transport helicopter, the CH-53 Sea Stallion, a heavy transport helicopter, the AH-1W Super Cobra, an attack helicopter. All these helicopters are vital for the MEU to function in its missions, so i'd expect to be able to control them sometime in the future, even if its not in first person in the cockpit, i'd expect throwing them around RTS style. As well as having the helicopters and the harrier, the LHA assault ship doesnt act alone, usually its deployed with a Carrier Battle Group, which group contains a big honking CVN full of Tomcats, Hornets, Intruders and the works.

Now the 2 in "Combat Air Patrol 2" is there for a reason. The original game was ground breaking for its time, it was the first combat flight sim that started you out on the carrier, had you take off, ingress to the mission, do the misison, egress out, and land with out time accleration, cutscenes, etc. A big thing to add about the original game, The two planes you could fly were the F-14 Tomcat, and the F/A-18 Hornet. Now i'm not expecting much but if there will be any other aircraft added, it'll have to be these two.

Now I don't really write reviews, mainly because other people really do it for me. But I had to review this game because its everything I wanted for the past couple years and I really hope the devs come through with it. Only things on my wish list is commanding of CV/CVNS, more planes to fly, and maybe helicopters too. Thats honestly it, everything else is there, and if they only ever have the harrier as a flyable plane I wouldn't care, its a good fun plane to fly because its not like the others. Best part is this game is going to get multiplayer and it isnt even that hard to play, you can fly in this game with a xbox controller and have fun (said my friend who I made try it at his house and he doesnt have flight controls because he plays console), and nothing is going to be funner then watching your friend shriek as you smash into him/her on the carrier deck, or better yet steal their A2A kill and promptly get deleted off their friends list shortly after.

This game has alot of potential as mainy have said in the past, I mean hell I followed this project since it was first put on greenlight like 4 years ago. It looked great on that day I saw it so I kept it in mind. now after forgetting about it (sorry) till 2017 I finally remembered it and looked it up and it looked alot better then it was in greenlight so I picked it up. Yeah, I admit the game right now is kinda meh. But I dont care, even in it's current state it's still just fun to fly around in free flight.

TL:DR I reccomend this game and nominate it because it's what some people have been looking for and they haven't even realized it yet.

Nominated for: The "Even Better Than I Expected" award.

sorry for my iliteracy
