It's a game with exploration. It's a game with combat. It's a game with puzzles and secrets. It's a game with unlocks and progression. It's a game. You're just missing a manual.

The game is epic. Great soundtrack and visual design, chock-full of surprises and secrets, lots of hidden details, big open world, bosses, brainpower required. One of the hood certified so-called "knowledge based games", there's more to the progression than just in-game items. It is cryptic and mysterious but it is built around that fact and it's a core element of the game, and it is done very well.

Yes you can call it "Furry Zelda". Aside from the character being a furry Zelda (the playable guy with the tunic from The Legend of Zelda series), the progression and world layout is similar to those games. You can also call it a metroidvania (Metroid was influenced by TLoZ anyway), but all this tagslop doesn't do justice to what the game really is. It is much more.

It's hard to talk about the game without spoiling what's ahead, so I won't. It's a blast to play, trust me I have never been wrong.
Negatives? There's none, it's perfect.

freddy fazbare ur ur urur ur urururur

Pretty damn sad and well-written as expected of the Freebird games. Reviews for this game are useless, you have either played the other games in the series and are gonna buy this one anyway, or you haven't, in which case you need to play the series in order NOW!
5/7 would spend hours digging bottles again.

Maggot exploration/survival simulator in an average NYC street. Where do I start? It's the definition of art in video games, finding that balance between being true to its environment and having a fun and ""fair"" gameplay loop.
A surprising number of players (even some speedrunners) quit their first few playthroughs, only to come back and adore the game. It's normal.
It's not everyone's cup of tea, but if you happen to like it, you'll find out that there's no other game quite like it. [BEST PLAYED ABSOLUTELY BLIND]

Explained as "trying to survive in an unknown ecosystem", you're just another part of that. The main object of the game is not survival, though. It is to explore while surviving. You don't get any significant special treatments as the Main Character™, yet it doesn't feel unfair because again, you don't get any significant special treatments as the Main Character™.
To everything else, you're just another animal running around, food or a threat. All the other creatures exist for themselves, not as an obstacle to you, they have their own agenda and things to do. It's also fair because whatever happens to them, can happen to you, and vice-versa. because remember, no special treatments™

The world is gigantic and non-linear, yet still has a path that can be identified as the "intended" path but doesn't enforce it. It lets you have your unique adventure of going ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you want and suffering. It doesn't prevent you from going places where you shouldn't, but it does nudge you off a little bit.

Every area is unique and memorable, with layouts and creatures and other elements having their place in the lore and realism of how an ecosystem would evolve under such conditions. The artwork and the general look of the environment is beautiful, with a lot of details that can be overlooked at first, but really give the area that air it has, and can even hint you towards some stuff.. The music (whenever it plays) is also a banger.

The game also manages to integrate the gameplay elements in a "realistic" lore-safe way, where nothing is "well duh it's that way because it's a video game!!1" and instead have explanations and references to in-game stuff.

Minimal handholding. The game is best played by experimenting with stuff. ♥♥♥♥ around and find out. Since you're in an unknown ecosystem you'll have to use your brain and unlimited* lives to figure out how stuff works. Don't be afraid of death, you'll wake right back up anyway. But that also goes for movement options. There's a lot of movement tech that the game doesn't tell you, but you can most definitely figure them out yourself. or go look up a guide idgaf.

The controls are hard to get used to, but they're by no means "bad"(maybe except underwater). u just suck.

The lore is a pain in the ass to get yourself (unless if you read the wiki), but I'd rather have this than have it shown to me as lame cutscenes or some ♥♥♥♥, given the setting of the game.

So, the negatives?
The camera transition sucks, no denying it. AFAIK it was done for performance and other technical reasons, but still bad. Although the maps are generally built around that fact, there are still some places that make you from "why" to "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ camera ♥♥♥♥ YOU". At least there's a workshop mod that adds scrolling camera so you have that option.

Minimal handholding and tutorial is a turnoff for some people (not me). Although there's supposed to be an updated tutorial in the new update I haven't looked at it yet.

that's all. game's literally perfect.

Early Access Review
A ""rouge-lite"" game with:
-Tons of build variety with significantly different gameplay styles
-Unlocks as you progress through the game
-Different types of hulls, weapons, shields, and mods that synergize with each other.

As of now there's only the endless mode, with a campaign, boss rush, and more other mods to come on release. It's released! There is now a final boss that you have to build towards with in mind. Each round progresses fast enough that you can get your build online relatively quickly, but also is long enough to keep you on your toes and still have room to improve on your build.

What gears/mods you get is randomized, but with the option to reroll it you won't have cases of "it's been 2 hours and i still haven't gotten this one item that's essential to my build".

seriously there's so much build variety in this game. just when you think you've tried them all, you get another idea or see someone playing a build with a synergy you didn't even know existed.

It's still in early access and getting constant updates. Devs are active on discord and in touch with the community.

Pretty fun / 10
