Wargame is the perfect scale for me, and quite the oddity with strategy/RTS games to boot. Think of it as country or Spain/Germany/France sized conflict zone. There are no bases in the traditional sense, only supply lanes and FOBs to fuels aid supply lines. Accumulate points by capturing zones/eliminating enemy units to buy more units with. Such a simple formula but it creates undoubtedly the best typical... load up a map and get to it sort of RTS.

Outside a map you're making decks of waiting for 10v10 lobbies to fill, decks are what determines you have inside a battle and are made up with whatever you like. You can set specific army types (marine, airborne, navy, motorized, mechanized, support) or even from the 1980's, 1970's or earlier for additional points to increase the capacity for your deck. Units are essentially cards and come with varying levels of training and experience that determine how durable, useful, viable they will be depending their environment.

Like I said it's the perfect scale, you aren't looking off map to figure other things out, it's isolated, it's all right there. The only downer for me is that it has very few navy + land maps, think there's only 2 with 1 being the only real playable one? Not many RTS games have the gall to include naval stuff - Shogun 2 did it well, as did Red Alert 2 but my word is that just such a rarity. Hearing CIWS spinning up, massive flare dumps, jets overhead, bombs in the air, fire and fury everywhere there's honestly no better C&C sort of RTS. Big love for it, after all these years I decided to review it... almost 10 years now I hope Steel Division dies so this gets a sequel. WARNO can stay.

What I would do, what I would give for more games like this...

Just standing in the Belfry has the organic bounce-off-each-other chemistry as Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy! It seemingly goes on and fills every stop at the Belfry with points of interest, information, or clues to what's ahead or things from their past that no world map could match.

I don't understand how people find its visuals lacking, it's outright gorgeous and sets an undeniably vibrant, gloomy, proper Gotham mood. Combat is stellar, feels more akin to Shadoe of Mordor and maybe a little Assassin's Creed 1-4 with how you can bounce around without looking like a Matrix character and blend ranged, melee, abilities, combos, grabs, grapple hooks and aerial moves in a casual or rather testing fashion.

Three months old and heroic assault + showdowns come out? Just went through them all as of this writing and loved it all though the final floor is a little bit disappointing where difficulty was concerned. Open plot threads, exciting post-launch junk, dialogue & interactions to die for, boss fights on Dogma/Colossus scale, fully and perfectly co-op? I haven't been so satisfied by a game since Dark Alliance II came out.

Hope this can wade through the piles of crap of people griping about 30FPS on console or how this doesn't run on their 17930TI because it's a damned phenomenally fantastically fine game and is suffering because of steam discussion spam & bad review spam with hate and 'WHY LGBT FLAG IN MY GAME' nonsense. DC's long done queer related things the only thing new is the low bar people set for themselves.

Hilarious it's taken me so long to want to write a review for this.

First let me say I have basically only played with Epic Encounters and would strongly recommend anyone wanting to play it alone or with others - to get it.

This is a game you can get sucked into for longer and have more fun from than you would an MMO. Infinite co-op, unending elemental combos, the very floor used against the enemy and in turn against yourself. To wash away all filth with a sudden rain, or to curse blood and ruin everyone's day. The utility and approach in combat is insane. Any fan of tactics, depth, choice driven gameplay and dialogue wrapped up in a charming, hilarious game that begs you to stress its boundaries.

I do wish there were more bosses in general? Or just elite creatures. Too many fights are over and done with too quickly and the same goes for larger fights. It could also do with some arenas to be honest, that are more than just a duel against another team. Everything is polished and synergizes with everything else. It's insane how something like a healer, blood mage and a rogue can combo and bounce off each other.

Epic Encounters though. Free mod from Amouranth's Google document page, it actually just makes it a whole new game. Eat artifact items and make them into runes, a Path of Exile-esque/Skyrim-esque constellation of skill/talent trees, customizable difficulty, a host of new sets, uniques and artifacts. The removal of hard crowd control (freezing, stunning, other things to make a character skip their turn) is weird to comprehend at first but the batter and harry system offer up a new manner to make fights longer, more threatening, and set a finer pace overall.

At the end, Swen Vincke is the best husbando anyone could ask for. Larian Studios is the greatest team of recent times. Their YouTube is full of heart wrenchingly adorable videos, their games full of a passion this industry has lacked for a great good while. I love this game so very much and it honestly needs to be played by any well cultured nerd.

MicroProse returns in a frenetic kinetic explosive manner!

Dead and recently revived, the team behind absolute wonders of gaming by the name of MechWarrior are back at it once more. And. My. WORD!! I've rarely enjoyed something so much and I've only just reached the 'end' after about 100 hours already on it. No, I'm not inept though I do choose to take a low range fleet so I can afford a ship I made myself.

Hard to get a handle on, it certainly has its quirks and demands precision, efficiency, understanding of a dialogue system that is fairly unpolished. At best it is just aimless and confusing, but having seen the end and how it plays out shows me that the dialogue isn't wasted. Combat is unnaturally satisfying, the on screen effects are everything I could want it just reminds me of the onboard computers in the Aliens films and i LOVE it so much!

I almost wish you were with the ability to command 6+ significant ships more often but it's just so hard to manage fuel, range and repairs unless you have anything resembling a Nomad or Sevestapol. It's a very good example of a game of which your choices matter and change how just about everything plays out. Every random sidestop you wiggle in is with reward more often than not, figuring out the map, radars, what guns you like and going as far as to make your own ships you can add to your fleet!

The ship builder is rather enjoyable, as one who doesn't really even enjoy simple, fruitless building like that. I found myself getting lost on making my own ships for dozens of hours! I clearly have alot to say on this, the game's impressed and awed me in ways nothing else really has since Original Sin 2 and its Epic Encounters moddy. I hope MicroProse can get more under their belts, the person to revive them is a fan himself. Very interesting story there as well! ><

Big applause, all my love. Well effing done.

Great game. Superb designs. Unqiue champions and absolutely wonderful animations, such glimmer and appeal just from a spectator's viewpoint. Too bad it took its greatest gamemode - Battlegrounds, from BETA to deletion and never brought it back. I occasionally open the game and look to see if they brought it back, but my most recent discovery was that they removed it from the game all together. Used to be able to run it in a private game, but never had the friends to play it with.

Not that I would, as I enjoy playing WITH my friends more than against them. Not many games have the all around appeal as this does, the intensity and tension is palpable and the dynamics and mechanics are something to remember. The Arena mode is quite a bore, and I'm not sure what the Battle Royale junk will be like. Rest in eternity, Battlgrounds.

Rome II. Such a devastatingly wonderful game, not to mention the Total War series from as much as I've played, has always been the most intricate balance of politics (not my favorite bit), city-management and tactics. The sheer capability of some of the units, and their formations are entirely bewildering. One group of seasoned, high morale soldiers can topple an army by themselves. This game makes such little things have such a monumental impact on gameplay. The enemy General has died, leaving more than half of your adversary's army demoralized, panicked, and routing within moments after losing another solider. I've yet to this day play a game where a wealth of things actually mattered. I find myself in awe, seeing so many say such poor things for this game due to faulty mechanics or whatever they could complain about. I've rarely ran into issues that prevent the game from playing as it does. Perhaps this was just too much of an adventure for lax souls, for it takes a pure senate, and unstoppable armies to grow and expand, but be wary! Controlling too much, and poor behaviour will lead to rebellions and worse! Civil War could find its way in your home, distributing your territories to all the other parties within your senate, an uprising to quell you from the known world. Even through this all, I've covered nothing in terms of the mechanics, and ingredients of what make Rome II what it is! Typically when a game has an encyclopedia in its name, you're either stepping into a lore-laden universe, or one complicated yet delicious mass of information.

I hope this is helpful to someone, this game is undoubtedly worth a purchase - the Emperor Edition adds a wealth of buildings, units, formations, actions, and so on... where the Steam Workshop has useful mods like Four Turns Per Year, and Realistic Formations will allow your generals, agents, and senators age properly, and live to the expected age of 40-50 before they pass. It also takes you through the individual seasons of a year, and each season has an effect on the province, the food that province produces, the health of your armies... it's impossible to not write a book about this game. The aforementioned realistic formations mod allows most units to have shield walls, which fans them out and produces a stance where holding a frontal line is best. Square formations are best for bracing against enemy charges, being in control when surrounded by a greater enemy force, and generally surviving. Rank Rotation is the neatest of all the included changes, making it to where the soldiers in an individual unit cycle through the ranks, preventing exhaustion and battling fatigue it is an invaluable inclusion.

I sure hope this helps get some good out there through the perpetual loathing that people seem to love doing. If you've ever been keen on strategy, or a tactician of any caliber or sort, this is the epitome of what could ever possibly be offered to you and what's best, is that no other developer can produce something so vast and wonderful.

Heroes has always had a particular unit design that has formed roots for me and Heroes VI does nothing but continue that. Although I miss the more diverse amount of strongholds and races to have, and the strange lack of other cities in the maps leaves things feeling slow, and draws the game out for much longer than it should be. It sets a new pace, compared to previous iterations and immerses you within the same city-management system, and lets us set our sails on another adventure where every step away from home is a risk.

A mix of Risk and Battleship, Wargame is sure to win you over. Warfare on one of the more larger scales I've come across. An endless variety of units is available to cater to all play styles, and one of the few games to actually allow some fairly heavy bombardment that I'm aware of. Player matches can be rough, people tend to leave and drop out due to country differences. Playing with friends is nearly an unforgettable experience, the ai is challenging and I've found the game to play smoothly, and more than satisfy my inner strategy-junkie.

There are few games out there that have required my attention as much as this has. It is the perfect level of intricacy without compromising general gameplay. Playing with friends online has a strange sort of delay on everything in general, but aside from that I see no issues with this game. With inspiring quotes, elaborate formations, and agents at your disposal your empire will surely rise - but neglect the people, and your regime will burn from the inside out!

Ridiculously addictive, intricately compiled game. Something for the inner strategist in us all, I favor the first but the new infantry and scouting mechanics have proven to be something enjoyable to adjust to. Major things differ between the two, but as for story and playability this game is beyond phenomenal!
