I was one of the original Kickstarter backers. I remember when it was first released and the game was so buggy that it crashed within minutes of opening it. That soured my feelings about the game enough for me to put it down for about three years before trying again.

I did the 8 week story mode, and here are my thoughts.

POSITIVES:
- Very cute art. Personally, I love the work of ByronB, and I have no complaints about how any of it looked.
- Great concept.
- I appreciate that some things about the game involve things that an IRL shelter would: foster care system, promotional events, vaccinations, volunteers/employees, and social media.

I'm sad that that's all I can say about the positives.

NEGATIVES:
- BUGGY. This game has endless bugs. I learned around week 3 that having foster slots always open was a good idea. If a dog got so bugged that there was no way to take care of it or move it, it got sent to a foster home. Employees would get stuck in kennels often. One time I accidentally picked up a euthanasia syringe instead of a vaccine. When the pop-up came up telling me what I did, I hit cancel, and nothing happened. It would not allow me to put the syringe back no matter what I did. I had to go on the computer, go to an event, and then when I came back, it was on the floor.

- Worse than the bugs, the game is just not fun. Amusing, maybe. After hiring a few employees, you mostly stand there waiting for something to happen. The routine goes: Stand between computer and drop-off kennel. A dog comes in. Grab the dog before the employees can. Run it over to the med area and give it all vaccinations if it's under 5 stars. Put it in a kennel. Go back to the Standing Place. Person comes in. Go grab mostly-random dogs for them. Discount the adoption fee if you need to. Go back to the Standing Place.

At a certain point, reputation means nothing, money means nothing, and everything gets repetitive. It's really easy to forget about certain mechanics only a couple of weeks into the game because they mean so little to your overall game.

- You are punished by expanding your shelter too much. I only really needed three rooms by the end with kennels because anymore and the utilities would have been too much to handle.

- There are no active ways to get more dogs. You just kind of wait around until you're, hopefully, blessed with a litter of puppies or a group of abandoned dogs. Also, the events to get more adopters the next don't /feel/ like they do anything, but maybe they do, idk. If so, it's negligible.

- The outdoor play area is beyond useless. It's not worth to get the happiness to play any of the three minigames even on the easiest difficulty. I also encountered a horrible bug there, so I just never touched it again and didn't notice a difference.

- I'm being repetitive by saying things are repetitive, but I mean it. The "Luisa" visitor event triggering every other day, and then her follow up visit only triggering a couple times was frustrating. Does her storyline even have an actual ending? "Jeremy" was also annoying and made me wish we had more visitors with issues we had to say yes or no to. The reporter that came in acted like it was the first time we ever talked about 80% of the time, and the other 20% she acted like we were doing a follow-up interview.

- The addition of euthanasia feels very odd (or sending away if you don't want that). It felt like there was going to be a time where I would have to make a decision to use it, but that never came. There's enough space for kennels, enough foster homes, and enough money to use. Even in a pinch, you could shove dogs in the play area, quarantine, show cases, or even the bath for a bit until someone gets adopted.

NEUTRALS?:

- I wish there were more volunteer/employee and visitor designs.
- I REALLY wish the dogs had more colorways. As much of a tragedy it is to have no sighthounds in the game, I understand that different models take a lot of work. But still... reskins would be nice.
- Everyone's taste is different, but the song set for Day 1 is very grating to me.
- If there's a litter of puppies coming in a only one of them is labeled "purebred"... well that bothers me a little.
- Ways to decorate would have been nice. I don't mean floor and wallpaper (which is implemented), but other things like posters, decor, supplies, etc. Might be a way to use all that extra money.

All in all, it feels like a very underbaked game that doesn't have much to do or much purpose to it.
