Finding the mimics in each puzzle captures the same satisfaction as the classic logic puzzle games, figuring out rules and tactics to speed up the process and work up to harder puzzles. There are lots of different modes too, so the concept is well-realized within this game by itself. Mixing logic puzzles with RPG elements is a WEIRD idea, but it certainly works as an interesting hook, and in execution it feels surprisingly natural.

I love when a game takes the necessary time to fully explore its gimmicks, but I also love when a game has lots of gimmicks and doesn't overuse them. This game is a rare case of both.

Apparently, traditional JRPG-styled gameplay can be fun! I never thought that was possible until I played the EBF series. Each game has been a huge improvement over the last both in terms of refinement and content. With this being the fifth game, it is absolutely massive and has a lot of replay value on top of that. You're free to play around with different builds no matter how high you set the difficulty, but make sure your brain is ready when you need it. You have a lot of different actions to choose from, and there are many enemies that do as well.

It's easy for a randomly generated autoscroller to feel shallow, but this game takes several different measures to stay fresh and engaging. It takes many notes from Monolith and Downwell, so this is a game with very little "cheap" difficulty, which gets its variety from the challenges the player will face, and the tools you'll have for them. It is NOT a game where you either get lucky and kill everything before it can move, or get trolled by things that were unavoidable or impossible to predict. Most things are telegraphed very well, and you'll mainly be tested on your ability to keep track of multiple things at once. The game also has some light strategic elements you can use to get an edge, mainly related to how you decide to use bombs. Get this game if you like gitting gud at games.

This game manages to have a ton of bosses that are all really different from one another while being fast, flashy, polished, creative, elaborate and unpredictable but fair, all at once. It's really satisfying to learn how to best deal with bosses' various capabilities and make the most of your own. The game is short, but has a ton of replay value between different characters and difficulty modes, as well as personal improvement. It's the kind of game that really encourages you to git gud, and makes sure you're having a good time whether you're struggling and learning, or asserting your dominance.

This is the most ambitious game that I've ever seen actually succeed at its ambitions.

There is an incredible amount of depth to this game, and it's also just super fun and epic in general. I spent so long training to get all the in-game achievements, and once I finally did so, I still couldn't bring myself to say goodbye to the game yet, and I continued to find out new things about it.

A very cool roguelike with a very cool selection of weapons, bosses, upgrades and handcrafted enemy waves, as well as a MUCH larger emphasis on skill than luck. The looping feature is definitely better than most, and the daily challenges have quirks to them, so they're actually worth playing. Also features heavy metal and pretty severe screenshake if you like that kind of intense atmosphere.

This is the sequel to a free flash game called Swords and Souls. This is a huge step up from that game, which was already quite good. The minigames are better, there's an actual story now, there are different weapons and accessories to suit your play style, and the best part is that the battle system is so much more interactive now! For example, you have blocks and dodges in limited quantity that recharge over time, so you have to use them strategically based on what kinds of attacks your enemies do/could do (yes, enemies actually act differently from each other in this one, which addresses my biggest problem with the original game). And timing them well makes them work even better, so you really have to be paying attention. There's a lot more to the battle system as well, too much to list really. It's all taught to you gradually though (as you should expect from a good game), so you're always learning something new, but you don't have to worry about getting overwhelmed.
