Keep in mind i did not play the first game at all and I went into this completely blind to the story and characters and world. (at the time of writing this review, I had just completely the full story and have yet to play RDR1). Not really any spoilers, minor mentions to big events.

"I'm afraid, sister"

The characters feel like people and even if you don't agree with a character, you can understand their perspective. Arthur Morgan's struggle of finding redemption and finding out who he is, really struck a cord with me. While yeah, I'm sure that no one playing this game has killed people, I feel like you can still take the games message (whatever that may be for you) and applying it your own life. Arthur Morgan, to me, is such a complex character and the story takes an organic approach to having Arthur slowly find his "redemption" (if you agree or disagree that he found it, is a different story). Other side characters such as, Dutch, John, Hosea, and Micah (hell everyone in camp and even stranger missions) really bring the story to life, and the voice acting is great and I really felt for Dutch during some moments. Could you classify Arthur as a good person? No, Not really. But do I think he found redemption? Yes, I think so. I fondly remember the celebrations that were held at the belonging part of the game, and I felt more attached to those parties, than parties I've gone to IRL. The way the game tells the story and the characters that fill the world, make this one of the most beautiful stories told in a piece of media.

"You, Sir, Are a Fish"

Game play and mission wise, I felt like it was above average, not perfect by any means, but a great medium for the story. The gun play and the different guns feel good to shoot, horses feel pretty good to ride, and the mini games and other activities you can do feel makes it feel like the end of the Wild West. Fishing, Hunting, hell even poker, make the world feel that much more alive. I found some of the fishing was more difficult than should be expected, but i excuse this for the canon reason of 'Arthur is bad at fishing' (which means i can be as well). Everything feels pretty good, i experienced very little bugs (only the occasional visual bug) ((deer just floating in the air)) Missions were well paced, and I liked how they did side missions, with things taking time and not able to just speed-run side missions, I found that horse breeds don't matter and I just pick my favorite looking horse. I want to try to 100% the game, which means replaying to get all gold on every mission, so my opinion might change as I works towards that.

"Hey, Mister!"

The graphics and world look great, nothing much to say, I found myself taking pictures everywhere and everywhere looks very pretty and they did a great job making the world look amazing, it made me want to finally go outside and touch grass, I like the random events, I never really fast travel anywhere, cause I just love looking out and going random places. I've taken a few pictures and printed them out and put them on my wall. Game looks great, people look good (I still can't decide if I find Dutch, Arthur or John more attractive). beautiful game not much to say.

"I Gave You All I Had, I Did"

Overall, if you are still on the fence about this game, I would ask yourself a couple of questions;

1) Do you enjoy a long slow-burn story with lots of complex characters and dialogue?
2) You will be doing a lot of riding to different places, do you want to see the world and find all of its weird little spots and beauty?
3) Are you prepared to be emotionally murdered?

if you answered yes to these questions, I would get the game. Even if you aren't a huge fan of Westerns, I sure you would still get something out of this game. The game goes on sale pretty frequently, I spent 20$ but its worth the full price tag. I know this review is a bit long and kinda a ramble, but I needed to get my thoughts out LOL.

TLDR:

This is probably the best single player game I've ever played. The story and world feel so alive that I was crying by the end of it. The game play works well with the story and while things can get sort of repetitive (crafting and looting) I find that I can look past that because of how real the world feels. + i cried

I really enjoyed this game. I'm not a big fan of rouge-like or anything like Dead Cells. (even though I really enjoyed Hollow Knight) This game has great story, lore, game-play and every death feels closer to advancing the story. The game-play is (frustrating at some point) fair, while the boons are somewhat random- every boon feels somewhat effective. It was really fun to experiment with different boons and artifacts(keepsakes) to make each run feel unique and fun. This game will suck you in- making you say "one more run I swear!" While I only have 10 hours in it so far- each weapon fills unique and promotes entirely different builds and play-styles. Even if you aren't a fan of rouge-likes, Pick this up and try it! Its worth the money!

I just played through the whole game and I loved it. yes it needs some work, but overall I enjoyed the music the dinosaurs and just the game play in general....I enjoyed almost every single part and oh my gosh the music was amazing and I'm sad I can't find it anywhere online. The graphics were great and and yes I would like more dinosaurs and better animations and more buildings and decorations. That is just MORE stuff I would like to see in the future and I hope they continue to constantly update this game. I have about 40 hours and I loved each of the Islands and Isla Nublar. Overall I would give this game a 8/10 because I feel it has room to improve and be more amazing then it is now.
