TLDR: The fact that this is a Triple A title from a massive developer and got only positive reviews is the biggest issue, littered with bugs and just a generally unfinished product. 6/10 in its current form.

Steam only offering a Yes or No option for this game is kinda frustrating. When i first heard about this game, i actively avoided spoilers and teasers. As a massive RPG and Bethesda fan, I knew I would over-hype it to the point where nothing would meet my expectations. For the most part, I had no idea what to expect when I started playing this game. And boy, am I glad i went in with no expectation.

I have defended the game heaps since release, and each day I play it, it gets harder and harder. Miles long and inches deep pretty much sums up the entire game. There is so many different things you can do; Be a pirate, bounty hunter, build ships, set up home on a planet, build a series of outposts farming resources, cargo hauling, be an interstellar taxi service, become a spy, space ranger. On paper, this is such a great game with so much to do. But the end result is just poor.

The quests are a mixed bag, the faction questlines are so well written, twists and turns, uncovering mysteries, I was hooked and the repetitive game-play was masked with such a immersive story. The main questline has to be the biggest disappointment. I enjoyed it, but when it was over, I just had this feeling of "Oh, thats it?". Like in the 10 mins I spent in the credits, I (one of the least creative people in the world, just look at my ships) thought of a half dozen ways and endings that would of improved the story.

But when you look at the big picture, the fact that I paid over $119 AUD for this, the fact that it took so long and was delayed, the fact that its made by Bethesda and not an indie company, the fact that the devs have said they plan to add BASIC game features (like a map) in future updates, the fact that the reviews were all 9-10/10 and even just writing this looking at the trailers compared to what was delivered, the fact that the game is full of bugs and the game punishes you for using the console commands. Last night alone, my ship disappeared when I was on a space station. Couldn't enter it, couldn't fast travel away. I was stuck there. The fact this is my main run trying to get the achievements was extremely frustrating and disappointing.

I'm sure i have no idea how much time, effort, money and work goes into a game like this. And i understand that there is the demand for everything ASAP e.g. Starfield, GTA6, but this just feels like a flop and a letdown. If I allowed myself to get hyped up for this game, I think I'd be pretty mad.

I know I shouldn't compare it to other games, but being late to the party and only recently playing RDR2 and replaying Skyrim again with a mod collection, I just can't understand why they chose to do things this way. And maybe I should be putting head to head considering Todd compared it to RDR2.

It honestly feels like a multiplayer game without the multiplayer. The grinding, replaying levels, hunting for loot feels very similar to the GTA online world.

Personally, I love RPGS, space themes and single player games, and the part of the game I like, I absolutely love. I could spent hours doing stuff. And again, there is heaps of things to do, but once completed you just get this Meh feeling with most of the time very little satisfaction. This game had/ has potential. And I have no doubt that in a few years when the mods start rolling in, its going to be a great game. The other big issues I have is the planning of paid DLC. I won't even go into the whole DLC rant.

I still enjoy the game, and you've probably either not read this or it's scared you from purchasing, and i will continue to play it. I'm just left with wanting more. Not because it was so fun, but because it was so shallow and thats never a good thing

Cowboys, horses, gun, booze. I was already sold. Getting into the game I was worried about it being too lifelike. I hate it when developers add hunger and thirst into a game. It handles that really well. Biggest thing to realise when getting into a game like this is, its not Cowboy GTA, its a story based game first and foremost. Like the combat is pretty neat, but the way it wants you to play is and 90% of the missions are; Run to cover, shoot, advance forward.

But damn, the story mixed with the open world more than make up for it. The game is a prequel, so many people already know the direction the ending is going. But it seems to nail how it handled it. The open world it next level, with so many random encounters and unique interactions with the NPC's and landscape make it enjoy able even after a few playthroughs.

Overall, outstanding game but it will require a decent amount of time to make the most of the experience. 9/10
