If you like games that focus on movement that make you repeat stuff over and over again till you get it just right then this is for you. But if you don't like wasting your time then I recommend skipping this one. Also, the dialog bits drag on and are also repetitive. The banter between the main characters rarely adds anything new to the story.

I finished the game, and I stand by my review. The ending was nice, but it's not getting to the end that's important, but how we get there. The overall gameplay was not very engaging for most of the game. And although the general story is good with a compelling theme, how it's told is clunky and drawn out.

Way too short for the money. I beat it in 2.4 hours. I'm missing like three hidden upgrades which would probably take another 20 minutes to get. For 20 bucks this is not worth it. It's just long enough that I can't get a refund. Ridiculously short. The game itself is a mix of Shinobi and Megaman X, which is a really a nice combo, but there is just not enough meat on the bone here. I feel pretty cheated with this one. Oh, and the English localization is pretty bad haha.

EDIT: was able to get a refund. If this game was 5 bucks it would be worth it.

Super fun schmup! It's kind of a mix of Gradius, R-types, Ikaruga, and Raystorm. And it also includes some situations/bosses/enemies that seem to be homages to Einhander. So, basically this is a love letter to a pantheon of classic schmups from the ages. The graphics are topnotch, sound is solid, music suits the action perfectly, and the gameplay is fun, addictive, and challenging. The ability to unlock upgrades for customizing your ship also adds a layer of fun strategy.

The only bad thing about this game is the awful English localization. But, honestly, it's kinda funny and endearing. It almost feels like you're playing a bootleg import from the 90s, making it fit even more with those aforementioned classic schmups. Totally worth the 10 bucks I paid for it on sale even though I finished it in just a few hours. I will definitely grind out the last achievement over a couple more hours because the game is so fun.

One thing I never got is why they called the game Dr. Anus. You do not play as a doctor and certainly not an anus.

I wanted to love this game. I waited for patches. The last patch was in December 2021 and the game is still buggy. It crashed about two hours in and then my save file was corrupt and I lost all progress. I bought the game at release, heard about the bugs, and was very forgiving. I accepted the developers explanation that this was a project started long ago and therefore it is buggy and will take time to fix. I assumed that with time the game would be at least put into a playable state. I am disappointed that now around 6 months since release the developer seems to be done with this project and no further updates are forthcoming. In it's current state it's outrageous to charge 20 bucks for it. To put it in perspective, I picked up Metro Exodus recently for 20 bucks on sale. There are even games in early access that are in a more playable state than this game at the same price point. I have asked for a refund, but since I bought the game more than 2 weeks ago I cannot get one. The only reason I waited before trying the game was because of the promises made by the dev. Boy was that a mistake. I feel completely cheated. Total waste of 20 dollars.

The game has some shortcomings but some strong points that make up for it. First and foremost, the gameplay is solid, tight, and very satisfying. Movement is a bit odd at first (the ledge/wall grabbing) but you quickly get used to it. The combat is very fun. The different weapons are good, but I wish there were more! The soundtrack is excellent, and really helps drive the action.

Now for the shortcomings: the story is a bit lackluster, told mostly through somewhat clunky and derivative dialog. Maybe I'm expecting too much but other similar games do a much better job of world building (Axiom Verge and Hyper Light Drifter come to mind). Perhaps Mindseize would have done better with a bit LESS story, letting the world come to life through incidental/environmental discovery. Also, I would have preferred if the cutscenes just took place in the game, foregoing the jarring animations.

However, my biggest gripe is with length and pacing. The first three acts are excellent, but the fourth and final completely fails. Just when I was really getting into the game it suddenly ends. The final level is so short, so devoid of life and seeming effort that it mars an otherwise excellent game. It just feels like the developer ran out of time/money/inspiration/♥♥♥♥♥ to give and just needed to wrap up the game.

Having said that, I do recommend it if you can get it on sale under 10 bucks. I had a great time playing the game for 12 hours or so (100% completion, 19/20 achievements). I just wish it could have lasted another 12 hours though.

I enjoyed this game immensely. The first Mirror's Edge is excellent, but Catalyst takes to another level. Although the physical game world is not huge compared to most games, it is rich with atmosphere and character. You really feel like you're exploring a giant futuristic city on the rooftops. The game play and movement is very fun and very engaging. And even the story is good with characters that you actually care about. The solid voice acting really helps here. It easily surpasses the first game for me. Highly recommended!

Simply put, if you like Symphony of the Night, then you will like this game. It has some flaws (many of which are being patched) but the game plays well overall. It's fun, addicting, and it builds a interesting, surreal, and dark world!

Overall, the game was a let down. Considering the reviews my expectations were a bit higher that what I got. At a core, games are about their gameplay and in this regard Deadlight completely fails due to terrible controls. That alone made it a frustrating and unenjoyable expereince. But in addition to that, the game features an uninspired story filled with common tropes and moments that require a bit too much suspension of disbelief. Finally, the game only took 3 hours to be, which was a blessing in disguise considering how un-fun it was. Glas it's over. Overall, I could only recommend it if it's on sale for 3 bucks or less, and even then you'll missing nothing special if you skip this one. A very similar although much superior alternative is the game 'Inside'. Pick that one up instead.
