I am so glad Sony changed their mind and opened it again in the Philippines. This has been a treat for me to play. Thank you, Arrowhead, for your design decisions thus far with this game.

I recommend it as a game to play around with and just appreciate how these character's interact. However, it's not a "diamond in the rough". It's a piece of copper at best. Nevertheless, copper still has value and I am willing to buy it.

Marvel Midnight Suns really could be a good "OC-insert hero into Marvel Universe" game if only it was polished better. It still suffers from making the main character a "very important figure" and his/her backstory and personality is a combination of everyone else. And it's so weird to see everyone talks to him like he's their best friend since childhood. But at the very least, it looks like they genuinely tried. Banters were nice and the gameplay is serviceable. I just think it really could be better. In the future, I wish more Marvel single-player games are like this.

Amazing sandbox tabletop experience. I wouldn't call it "groundbreaking" but it doesn't have to be. It's the perfect experience that I have always been itching for in decades. I'm not sure about its replayability, though. I've only played for a day and only on my first playthrough for now.

Early Access Review
It's definitely no game of the year contender and other games offering bullethell, tactics, or dating sim gsmeplays are much better minus the porn. However, I do find myself enjoying it. Here's my opinion on each elements that I can identify (I'm not good at this so please take it with a grain if salt):

Porn

Basically just a collection of StudioFOW signature shorts. Your only interaction with them is to adjust the intensity of some animations and when to ♥♥♥. You can also adjust your camera so it's a lot better than Sims with adult mods.

Bullet hell space battles

This is the most surprising bit because it's actually great! Controls are amazing, enemy varieties are perfect, and boss battles come with memorable gimmicks. I wish they expand on this in their future game projects (+porn of course. Love you, StudioFOW).

Tactics battles

This is actually the worst element in the game. Most of the time, I don't know what I'm doing because I have little to no means to control what units I lay down. If we could play with two heroes rather than one at a time, that would be amazing but the size of each arena isn't built for that.

Character design

I am not an expert on this so I can only judge with my ♥♥♥♥, but all of them satisfy me. The 4th girl got me worried because it's my least favourite character voice and trope in a body that is absolutely my type. However, she grew on me instantly. Her situation and drive to rebel against it is actually relatable.

Dialogue writing

I'm also not an expert in this but I am going to say I like it. Jokes are hit or miss and this time, it's mostly miss. However, the way they each talk actually feel like the game has a serious story underneath all those R-rated exchanges. They're raunchy on purpose and for the sake of comedy but it doesn't underplay the concept of personality. At best, each character is just a trope personified but it's how these personalities interact us actually kind of endearing.

World building

Subverse falls into the tell-show-less trap but it can't be helped given the nature of the game. I doubt we can actually explore all mentioned established realities in the galaxy but it's good to know there's a story somewhere. Some are added as plot convenience, too, but they're executed in a fun way so I don't mind.

Verdict

Subverse is definitely not the kind of game I would recommend to anyone even without the porn. It's a kind of game that I enjoyed merely because I know how to turn my brain off. I'm attached to the characters because I'm down bad for all of them but also because there's plenty of interaction that actually make them fun to follow. It also helps that the space battle portions are so good. I hope this game becomes successful. StudioFOW has a long way to go but I'd love to be here watching them grow.

The story is good but the game aspect are all tedious and borderline pointless. Especially Riddler's whole Saw deal. I quit.

Is it a bug filled mess? yes.

Do other FPS seem better compared to this one? definitely, tbh.

Are the side missions as good as the Witcher 3's? nope

Regardless, I love my experience with the game. From exploring the open world to engaging with other people's lives, I had a wonderful experience. The main mission is also extremely compelling that the only reason I delayed completing it is that I got the 'point of no return' warning. Side jobs are actually really short but I loved every second anyway. The only real complaint I have with this game is that I want to see more of it.

As it is now, yes it's still a buggy mess. Including some animations not working right, objects appearing right in front of your own eyes, and pretty useless AI. That last bit may not be a bug though. Maybe they really all are just easy to deal with. As an experience, though. It was great. Amazing voice acting and thoughtful dialogues. V also tend to surprise me with wisdom from time to time. All fixer jobs are kind of repetitive though and the characters involved, though written well, are honestly not interesting enough to make their basic quest worth it. I guess I was hoping for more interesting puzzles to solve rather than be careful with cameras all the time.

The game is fun when you actually get to play it. It's just tough to get a game sometimes because the player count is so low. I loved both Dominion and Battle Royale mode but I can't experience either on my prefered schedule.

It was a wonderful 12-hour experience. Love the place, the character interactions, environment-triggered comments, and the controls for movements. I enjoyed every second of it. I personally love the minimal tutorial. Everything is easy to understand anyway. I get that the story is standalone so I won't expect a sequel. However, I love the roaming mechanics and the level designs. I wish to see something similar even if it is of a different property no longer featuring these endearing couple.
