Great game back in the day but the re-release didn't even do the bare minimum.

Mouse settings are so abstract that you can't really tune your sensitivity as one setting will be too slow and the next one will too fast with no in between. Even worse is the menu mouse speed is tied to the aiming speed so prepare your mouse to be too fast in game and too slow in menus.

The frame rate is also locked but far from stable routinely dropping below the 62 FPS lock.

These things should have been fixed before re-release but even more damning is the lack of multiplayer support that should have been added from the console version.

Honestly its still playable but its extremely annoying. Its really just one patch away from perfect.

I'll change to recommended should such a patch come out.

*DEVS PLEASE READ*

This game has a few issues but nothing that can't be fixed.

First off, having such large interaction zones makes this game harder than it needs to be. Too many times will you try to grab your gun with your off hand and end up grabbing a mag off your chest, or worse when you try to grab a holstered gun and you jedi an empty bottle off the ground instead.

Next issue is the gun system. Guns feel alright to shoot but I have no idea why to this very day devs keep setting your grab as your weapon manipulation bind.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SET TRIGGER TO GUN MANIPULATION OR ADD AN OPTION TO.

I'll try to use my off hand to support my 1911 and end up grabbing the slide even when the slide is farther from that hand than the grip was. Mix that with the ammo being on your chest and large interaction zones and its a gamble whether you grab the guns grip, slide, or another mag out of your pouch.

I'd highly recommend adding options for play styles like Pavlov or Onward when it comes to how ammo and gun interaction is handled.

As for graphics and performance graphics is good, not amazing but good and modern.

Performance on the other hand seems to need some work. The game seems to crash if you are using alot of RAM even if you have 20GB more to spare and even with a 2080ti and 9900k frame rates aren't what I was expecting even at low settings. I had to use fholger's scaling .DLL and tinkered to get a good balance.

That said I do recommend this game, its fun if a bit less intense than others and cross platform play is a real show stealer.

Why can't AAA studios seem to make a VR game that handles well? No really, just about every small studio seems to have game mechanics on lock but the bigger companies can't do it?

This review isn't so much about whether this is a good/bad Sniper elite game or whether the graphics are good or even if it performs well as the game doesn't even make it that far as I'm concerned.

First off is your hands..... Yes, your hands are off. You'd think that since the platform you are using to play VR games already has an absolute position of your head and hands in 3D space this wouldn't be an issue but it is.

Its like you are holding a stick in each hand and on the top of those sticks are your VR hands. This is the worst, imagine you are playing a flat shooter and the point of rotation wasn't in the center of your screen but off to the left.

This causes big problems when trying to aim, reload, grab objects, or really anything needing muscle memory/coordination.

What makes this worse is the weapon handling. Medal of Honor got this wrong too. Its funny that Boneworks, Pavlov, and Onward all do things different but they still got them right.

In a good VR shooter the method for handling the weapon is not the same as manipulating it's action.
In SEVR (this game) you use the grip to both grab the rifle and grab the bolt. This combined with the funky hands pretty much ruin the experience. You'll end up grabbing the bolt when trying to grab the handle as well as the opposite.

Speaking of handling, the bullets don't actually exit the muzzle in a straight line all the time, for instance while using a sniper one handed. While not a good idea in real life and very ineffective past a couple yards a VR game should always have the bullet exit the same way every time. Adding wobble or making your arm limp when trying to aim a sniper with one hand wouldn't feel like being cheated as much as seeing a round leaving the barrel 30 degrees off center.

Speaking of hands, pistols only get one. No double handing pistols for better handling in this game.

Honestly I love the xray kills, the scope is fantastic (besides magically getting bigger) but just the handling alone is a deal breaker.

Also game doesn't run that great even on a 2080ti/9900k.

Early Access Review
I get its in early access but it is far from being able to see where this might go.

Yes its early access, yes that means its not done/buggy/feature incomplete but its so fresh out the oven its not really in a playable state.

I mean sure you can do stuff and interact but its painful as hell. Menus are awkward, it forces a blink on snapturn, grabbing is clunky and putting your hand towards objects pushes you away even if you aren't touching them.

It also defaulted to arm swinging loco like I was some kind of savage.

Yes its EA but IMO in a shooter you should have the gun handling atleast somewhat done to modern standard before charging money.

I like the multiplayer options this game has and more need them. If the gun/object handling (at the very least) gets suped up and more natural then I could see myself rebuying in the future.

I do wish the devs the best.

Fantastic game with technical flaws that close to ruin it (mostly online play). Needs better support for more granular mouse sensitivity and higher FPS. Thats right you heard me, if you FPS gets too high the games stutters and becomes unplayable.

Still fun with friends though.

This game has some neat ideas but fails hard a being a good pc port.

First off if you are porting from any platform to any other platform make sure the UI is changed accordingly, This didn't happen.
The UI is still made of giant screen space stealing buttons that seem to only respond with the mouse which would seem fine until they pop up every 2 seconds during a race. If you are using a controller then you need to let go and use the mouse to exit the popups, afterwards it goes right back to the game and you lose speed because your hand was on the mouse not the gas.
One of the biggest issues it seems is small time (and sadly some big time) devs don't include enough options to set. One such option I would like to turn of is the motion blur applied to the scenery as you drive by. It looks stupid and seems to cause the appearance of micro stutter.

The devs also seem to have gotten lazy on optimizing the core mechanics. Steering feels awkward, the warp portal things don't seem to work all the time and sometimes attacking through the big warpgate does nothing.

This game isn't worth the sale price of $2.50 USD let alone the normal price of $10.00 USD. Don't waste your money on it.

Message to the devs, if you want to port/make a game for PC make sure you revamp the UI and add audio/video/general options in detail and add UI navigation for mouse, keyboard and controller. If you patch in the fixes and add in the PC specific bits this could be a decent $5.00 USD game.
