The title really does say it all. This is an incredibly charming game: the characters have *character* and they're cute and interesting; the sprites are delightful, allies and enemies alike; the dialogue made me burst out laughing on multiple occasions; and honestly I've never felt more visible and seen by a game. It's a delightfully representative game, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Early Access Review
Eternal is a strikingly familiar game. It borrows extensively from Magic, so a familiarity with that game more or less sets you up to learn how to play Eternal without much translation needed. Power replaces mana, the colours are different, the lore entirely unique.

But the execution is so good, the presentation so well-honed to maximise ease of use while allowing clever strategic play, the progression so rewarding, that it puts any digital version of M:tG to shame.

You can play entirely for free, and it doesn't feel like you're being constantly urged to start spending to keep up. You can play against the AI for free to grind currency and quite quickly start opening real constructed-playable cards to use in competitive play. Sure, one can actually spend money, but at no point have I felt that I need to.

Add to this the seamless spectator mode to let friends hop in to watch, which has made learning decks much easier as they can help teach me while watching me play and seeing my hand in realtime, and you have a thoroughly enjoyable CCG which I can happily recommend. I fully expect the game to keep going and getting deeper, and look forward to ploughing many more hours into it.

Astonishingly quick, brutally violent, Hotline Miami will make you feel like a videogaming god as you dart from enemy to enemy, before bringing you down to earth with the thud of a golf club to the skull as a single misstep kills you. Press R to retry. Again, and again, and again.
