once upon a time, long since past, there was a great city that sat in a lush rainforest. in this age, man was in harmony in nature.
One day, while in the forest, a little girl chances up an enchanted stone that fell from the sky, imbuing her with unfathomable power.

And what do you think happens when a juvenile is given full reign of the household with no questioning authority?

She would throw lavish parties, erect massive palaces, statues, even entire mountains. The earth was her sandbox.

She began to attract the attention of something up above; a formless entity that has no ability to inflect it's will upon the mortal realm.
Unless it has a host; a conduit

The little woman sets her sights on the stars; if her power on earth is absolute, I wonder what lies in wait in the sky

Her grandmother however, having seen the corruption that spawns from such power, begs and pleads with her to bury the stone deep in the mountains and seal it away forever.
She turns her grandmother into a chicken.

One day she meets a young, slender woman with long, flowing black hair. She, and all around her were immediately hexed by her beauty.

The little girl, who is now a princess with unquestionable authority, is seduced by this woman.
She wants to be as beautiful as her, so she wills it. The woman convinces her that they shall rule together, and share the stones' power.

it was equatable to inviting the neighborhoid creep over to a party of children.

By the time she realized the danger she and her kingdom were in, it was too late.
Those aligned with this entity began to sacrifice those they loved most to indulge in her power; feeding a flame that only grows more veracious the more you fuel you give it

Eventually they turned on each other, and those that remained were no longer even resemblent of human, except that their faces, twisted and grotesque, took on the image of their queen.

there are many iterations to this same story, because this is not the first time this has happened.

She sleeps beneath our feet, only waking to feed on the living, using the cover of war and disaster to mask their presence. She is the guardian; the gatekeeper of forbidden knowledge.
