Most Negative reviews come from VR users. Since im not one of them i think i can judge the game for non VR users quite well.

Its a fun game if you like Star Wars starfighters and cool Dogfights in space.
I am mainly using a Controller because its the most competitive option, but i got a a very old generic joystick to work with this game.

People that are claiming the HOTAS support is ♥♥♥♥ seem to not understand that the main goal of this game was to keep a nice balance between players across all platforms because of its heavy multiplayer focus.
Its an Online Competitive game rather than a "VR Space Simulation" so if you expect to have a very Immersive sim-style flight simulator type of expierience youll be disappointed.

You can kinda compare it to using a Steering Wheel in Forza, while its the most fun, you dont really stand a chance against players with a controller because its mainly made for controller players.

So if you want a Fun Star Wars starfighter game using just a controller you wont be disappointed its more fun than i initially thought its going to be.
