(Update:) Now that the Raider mode has been added, there's something quick for solo players. But it isn't strictly PvE- while at least you aren't getting surprised by coordinated teams of players, it's only one step in the right direction.

(Old review:)It's promising, but needs a lot of work.

I may give this another shot if there is a proper PvE mode. As it is, progress is too easily lost, the daily quests are too much of a grind, and I was just left feeling like solo players like me were just loot pinatas for no-lifers/hackers.

Too short for the price, okayish legend of zelda style gameplay and puzzle-solving, and an overdone plot twist (cutesy cartoon world is actually post-apocalyptic). I would have refunded it if I hadn't lost so much time backtracking.

Not worth it.

The gameplay generally feels alright, but I hated the dreary, overly-serious writing (they killed off the only light-hearted character for cheap melodrama). I could generally ignore that as long as the core gameplay loop was engaging, and there were interesting locations to run around and shoot stuff in.
I tried introducing friends to this and was met with constant frustration in the new player on-boarding experience. The devs completely killed any enthusiasm I had for it when they started making old, free areas inaccessible. Somehow, the areas they picked to remove were almost all of the ones I liked, so now I can't even show my friends why I ever enjoyed this game.

Somehow a bigger disappointment than Hearts of Iron 3. HoI 3 was a rushed, buggy cashgrab, but at least they moved on from it quickly. HoI 4 is excellent for generating alt history scenarios, but the infuriatingly bad military management (which is most of the game) just ruins it every time.

If this game looks interesting to you, just watch no-lifers play it on YouTube. It's better than wasting dozens of hours trying to make this garbage work, like I have. Now I can't even refund the lousy DLC.

Forget about the nice things I had to say earlier. This game now has the same monetization scheme that made Hearthstone not worth keeping up with. It was fun before they made some of the cards paid-access only. And, of course, there is a powercreep problem now.

Anyone who tells you that this game isn't worth it is just troweling.

Recent change stripped linux compatibility and bugged game into being non-functional for multiplayer. Other reviews will likely go into more detail. I'll amend this review if the game at least returns to a state where I can enjoy it with my friends again.

My previous review read "Are you ready to BREAK STUFF and STEAL THINGS?". Apparently someone took that to heart.

I have a much greater appreciation for how quickly the Black Panthers can be driven to assassinate someone now that I have played this game.

It's like Cave Story meets Mega Man X, with all the storyline complexity of I Wanna Be the Guy. Which is to say, it's awesome.
