I freed Jeff before leaving the distillery, and I feel guilty about it.

Valve did an amazing job on this game. I went in with low expectations, because, well we all know how little games Valve makes these years, but they still have surprises for us yet.

It was amazing to see the combine in 3D for the first time, and the VR level design is well done. About the middle of the game things seemed to get repetitive visually, but the level design begins to ramp up with the creativity.

Fighting in VR is a bit of a different beast I am not used to, for example, by nature the combine can kind of just stand around while in battle. I understand that if they fought they way they would in a traditional game, it would almost be impossible to beat them. So that's a trade off I understand, but it still felt out of place when I would see it.

The ending made me think Valve was serious about HL3, something I hadn't felt since around 2017 when Lombardi leaked his script for Hl3 online pretty much after all the old guard had left Valve. Could it come out before Star Citizen or WW3? That remains to be seen.....

Early Access Review
Did you lurv Half Life? Want to go one more round in the Black Mesa complex with some element of surprise in gameplay without the game being unrecognizable from the original? Then buy this game. I don't want to go into the history of this game. But many people said Duke Nukem Forever was vaporware (some wish it actually was), others said Black Mesa was vaporware. Well, it's not either. Negative Nacys can run their mouth for free 24/7, but these devs actually worked to created an updated version of the original HL. Kudos to the people who do more than run their mouth in this world. I will admit, I was concerned HL3 would come out before this game would, but these devs have been actually making this happen. Now I am skeptical HL3 will ever see the light of day. If you never played HL. Buy this game. Then buy HL2. Then after completing both, wonder WTH did Gabe do to lose control of his ship.

When you buy a game claimed under development but is actually abandoned. Devs be like "Thank you come again."

Irrational Emotional Hyperbole Aside...
The Good- Performance/graphics have improved over Alpha. The legacy code from the Alpha days is gone. FPS is way higher than its ever been. The game looks and plays better than it ever has. Survival is slightly more challenging than its been and will become even more so as more core elements are brought into the game. Also MODDING. Modding is something most developers don't embrace these days. But it's available for this game. Some of the best games have come from community mods (Counter-Strike, Dota, Tam Fortress, Dayz....) Even if you don't care for the base game Dayz. Chances are someone in the community makes a mod that is tailored to your liking.

The Bad- This REALLY isn't a Beta. It's still an alpha. Alpha is when they are adding core tech to the game and Beta is when they polish the gameplay. Well.. they are still adding core tech to the game. There is no way to beat around the bush on this. It is the main reason you are seeing so many negative reviews. If this bothers you... don't buy the game. Wait until they add everything.

The Ugly- The Dayz community mostly. Complaints are vaild, but a lot are emotional rants that are far less fair than the devs have been. If you aren't blasting the game turning off everyone you meet from buying it then you are a fan boy. If it's up to them they would dry up revenue for the game so it would never be complete. Some people actually want it to succeed.
