32.8 hrs on record (8.0 hrs at review time)
Just wrapped up my first 8 hours on release day, playing in 4K with ultra settings. I used a Nintendo Switch Pro controller (as I do for most soulslikes). I beat several bosses and made it deep into the 2nd region of 4. So I enjoyed the game overall, so far, but there are a few things that need to be fixed.

Good:
  • The game looks and runs well for me, no performance issues (12700k/4090/32gb/NVME).
  • The world looks good and is cohesive from one area to the next. Soundtrack is great, lalaLALAlaLaLaLala.
  • There’s a bunch of optional things to do, like fights and mini “puzzles”, which is good when looking for extra souls/items.
  • The parry system is pretty good, even handling projectiles smoothly.

Meh:
  • The big one is the lack of key rebinding is baffling in 2024, although the devs will add it soon apparently.
  • I felt that enemy attacks tend to track you a bit too much, which can get annoying after a while. The enemy attack speeds take some getting used to, slow wind ups and super-fast attacks.
  • The inconsistency between voice acting and text-heavy sections is… well, I’m not a big fan of excessive reading.
  • Some enemy animations don’t transition smoothly and invisible walls popped up in some places, but they’re pretty minor issues.

At the time of my previous review, I had 20 hours played upon release. I was given the game ahead of time to test it and stream once the embargo was lifted. I now have over 145 hours played.

As a previous DayZ fan boy, the hype around this game felt like the game I was waiting for.

If you're into open-world survival games, it should be right up your alley.

PVE? Yep, you can do that. PVP/Multiplayer? Yep, that too. Death match or capture the flag type (cargo assault) modes? Yep, they are called events and included in the game if you chooe to participate.

For an early access game and a small development team I'm pleasently surprised at how well put together the game is so far and can't wait to see what will be added next. The devs are an awesome bunch and have continued to communicate with players alongside frequent updates.

I would nominate this game for game of the year... but that's just me.

Great game with a lot of potential. I've spent over 230hrs of life playing this game on both private and public servers.

At the time of this review there are bugs in the game that can be annoying, but definitely not gaming breaking. The devs are working on it and updates are pretty frequent.

When this game first came out, and even after a couple months, I thought I would play the game and set it aside.

Well, it's grown on me and it's taken over 100 hours of my life.

It has a faster pace than similar game titles. Run around, break in to bases, go on shooting rampages, die.

Good times!

If you've played the DayZ mod for Arma II, then you definitely need to pick up the DayZ Standalone. However... It's currently in early development and doesn't offer as much content as the mod. But paying for early acces now, will save you money in the long term and allow you to get your feet wet rather than salivating at others experiences.

The graphics have improved a lot. The zombies have improved 10 fold and still have a ways to go. The new inventory screen, guns, some of the new gun sounds... all part of a winning game!

My biggest tip is, learn to get used to dying and starting over. If you master this, this game will be so much fun, you'll skip class or call in to work sick just to play it.

A favourite zombie game of mine.

Lots of zombies, lots of gore, lots of multiplayer fun!

Can still recommend this game even in 2014!
