I recived a code from KT so I could record some SteamDeck footage for youtube,
But they did not ask for a steam review, nor do they know I'm posting this.

I've only been a musou fan for a few years, but really enjoyed spin-off, but never really got sucked into a main DW title. and hearing and seeing the decline in quality going from Dw8->Dw9 and WO3->w04. I did not expect much here.

And TBH my first impressions were actually WORSE than I expected,
You only play as ONE main character? (you can switch to your partner howver)
And you earn weapons as drops rather than crafting and modifying them?
And your character progression is much more of a linear skill tree?
Co-Op's gone too, but tbh, I've never used it.

Is this even Dynasty Warriors anymore?
One of my favorite parts of Warriors orrochi was seeign what new crazy character I'd unlock next!

But I gave it some time ran some maps, and I've actually been able to really enjoy it as it's own little stand alone experince.
The combat is more dramatic and more tense than ever before, because they only had to do a handfull of combat styles instead of hundreds of (slight variations), they were able to make the fights feel much more clean and personal despite there being hundreds of enimes on screen.

Battles feel more tense, and the maps feel more larger and more organic than ever before,
just everything about beinging 'in the moment' and fighting feels ways better than previous musou games,
There's more of a flow to fights now, and blocking and parring are more important than ever.
Clearly it's not a 'souls-like' but I do feel you get rewards for doing more than just mindl;essly mashing buttons.

The story takes a bit more of a front seat putting your new character front and center, but it's still a ton of fun if you're more like me and play these games for the combat and skip the story.

I really feel this game serves as a testing ground for the next era of musou games, I do hope in the future they go with an expanded roster, and bring back weapon upgrading, but this is still great start!

The game is not flawless, but it's been super fun so far, and I'll proabbly stick around till the end!

TL;Dr: Looks better/plays better than Wo3, but with some BIG downsides!

Compared to WO3:
+The Graphics look better
+The combat's MUCH Faster!
+You can actually mount your horse reliably
+New mythologies added!
+Upgrading/Fusing weapon is GREATLY streamlined, (getting weapon attributes is far less grindy)
+There's an actual 'Retry' button? (no more getting kicked to the main menu on death.)
+New universal Magic items that can be swapped around for even more explosive damage
+Simplified character types from 4 to 3 (Tech, Power Speed) so you can always have a team that covers the bases
+You can lock on to stronger foes?!?! (even displays an easy to read health bar on top of screen)
+Tons more smaller combat changes

But the combat in this game is such a HUGE upgrade in my eyes, I actually dropped wo3, and played the ENTIRETY of wo4 and it's ‘ultimate’ expansion, (every main+side mission) before going back to finish Wo3.

But as much as I prefer this games combat, it;s a HUGE step down in other areas.
-Very little map varity (always been a problem with the series, but more noticeable here)
-Main story is very short, with the ultimate edition, it feels like half a game
-Pretty much Zero unlockable costumes (they’re all paid dlc)
-Very little variety in objective types,
-Progression is much more linear, with side-missions feeling much less rewarding.
-Even on Padimonium difficulty it feels MUCH easier
-Most of the DLC is pointless, and costumes are split across dozens of packs.

So as much fun as I had playing it, it was wilding going back to Wo3, and operating a laser turret to take down a hydra, and I realized just how much toned down this new entry was.

So my suggestion? If you don’t have either, and only want one game, Just go with WO3, it’s a much better package overall, and the combat is extremely fun!

If afterwards, you want more Warriors Orochi Goodness, Buy this onsale, (be sure to get the ‘ultimate edition’)

If you're on an modern AMD GPU (READ THE OTHER REVIEW)

If you're on nvidia, or an older AMD, the game seems to run fine, very low specs, but also like zero setting to tweak.
A (mostly) functional port of some amazing games!

Runs well on steamdeck!

Really intresing idea!
and the co-op (while not the main focus, and kinda unbalanced) is a ton of fun.

But there are some real issues here in terms of resource management, they have a wide slection of dogs, but not enough reason to use most of them.

Youre avalible slots dont upgrade fast enough, and passive and active buffs share the same slots,

so sometimes youll unlock a new dog that gives faster movment speed, but that just pales in comparison to an attacking dog with special abilities, multiple teirs of upgrades, and that takes up space to block foes.

Overall the game is very charming in both story and visuals, but the dog options just feel very odd, and a little to restrictive despite the varaity.

And because of this the game can get failry repeitive. Especially with thr lack of variaity in the events in levels

For people looking for a few hours of an intresting new experince, id say check it out!

I feel like i got well more than $15 of fun when playing in co-op, but dont really feel the need to complete it. And may have played less without the co-op.
(Only player 1 can actually build, player 2 has limited support options.)

Its a pretty fun plants vs zombies inspired beat-em-up, Id love to see a refind version of these ideas in a sequel!

Hopfully with more intresting dog/resource managament, more inegrated co-op, and more intresting levels to play though.

I wish the devs (and their dogs) all the best in thrir future projects

My Favorite Soap opera got renewed for an 8th season!
I can't wait to see what drama the family gets up to this time!

All jokes aside, this game is crazy fun so far,
Far more aggressive than SF6, with way more costume+color options than SF would give you after paying twice this game's price! XD

[In Tekken 8, Fist Meets Face!]
-------------------------------------------
Edit: Still a good game, but they've started to slip into some of the 'bad' of modern gaming as well, Paid Early access, tons of premium cosmetics, Prices being 'just over' the curreny bundle to force you to pay extra, etc.

It's not (yet) enough to stop me from playing, but they won't be getting any more of my money, unless they show they care about the community as much as their passive income.

You're walking a slippery slope, be careful not to fall over the edge,

The year after the final content drop, weeks after they add steamdeck support to MHW,
They decide to brick MHR on steamdeck! XD
---
For now you need to the fix by Hyper_Eye

add this to your launch options: WINESTEAMNOEXEC=1 %command%

It makes the game 'playable' for those who already have it, but that work around is not enough reason for me to recommend buying the game.

This is not an edge case, capcom OWNS steamdecks for testing MHW, they could have easly tested this before pushing out the update, but they did not.

They proved (trying) to block mods was more important than their community, ..and guess what?

Mods are already back, but the deck version is not...good job?

**NOTICE!***

NO, you can not listen to the music outside of the game.
(yes, the item page mentions this, but it should probably be made more clear.)

They don't even give you one of those silly little app players, let alone PDF's and MP3,
It just adds a new option to the game's main menu.

It's actually really inconvenient, especially since the special edition came with an actual CD.

Part Musou/Part ARPG...
all FATE!

[-First impressions-] (No SpoiIers)
If you're a fate veteran or new to the series, there's plenty to like here,
It's a stand alone story, and explains the basics well, so no prior knowledge is needed.

It has all the crazy over the top action you'd expect from the fate series, But with tons of options in combat, and without the repetitive zone capping of Fate/Extella!
I have a quick comparison of Samurai vs Extella here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkwKCIm8CSA

The mob count is SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than most other musou games, so it feels much less mindless,
and there are plenty of options to mix up combat, so you won't be stuck spamming light and heavy attacks everywhere.

The story is pretty interesting so far, and I'm enjoying the characters,
There are plenty of RPG elements, you can upgrade your skills, weapons etc,

And while it doesn't quite offer the expansive variety of some top teir ARPGs,
Not the nonsensical drop in/out grindy excitement of a musou game...

It manages to find a great balance between Flash and function, choices and carnage, power and plot.
to offer a really fun and unique experience!

It's not just fan service, and makes great strides over other musou/ARPG hybrids,
But it's still a musou at heart, so some ARPG fans may still prefer a little more content in terms of side activities, and combat variety.

In short, if you can't stand musou combat, (for more than just the lack of options/decision making), this won't change your mind.

But if you're looking for a stylish hack and slash game that still contains substance,
Or are a huge fan of the fate series, I'd say give this a shot!

Code Provided by publisher, but I can say whatever I want :P
(they just asked that I avoid spoiIers.)

I've already played on PS4, But I Bought the game on steam to play with 60fps and on steamdeck!
The 60fps mod works great, and with some tweaking (and protonGE) it runs well on deck

And Yes, it actually runs on Windows 10! (unlike what the top review says)

But just like on PSP and PS4, this game is still a bit of a mess.
It has a lot of great ideas, and fun moments, it's basically a tactical ARPG.
The foes hit hard. (if you don't overlevel) and team comp is extremely important.
And while the counter-hit timing feels a bit weird, (if you want for the indicator, you may be to late)
It's still really fun to land these hits, as they do MASSIVE damage, even when using your auto attack!
So at times, it's actually better to not hit a foe/boss, if you know a counter will be avalaible soon.

But the Rushed development cycle really show in how a lot of the ideas are not fully fleshed out, and some remain unpolished.

The PS4/PC Version clean up some issues, like the PSP camera controls, but add more, such are removing co-op and replace it with the (Frankly bizarre) backup system.
Where you'll have your AI party members replaced at random with.. other ai party members.

They're not stronger, or smarter, it just throws off your planning, as you may get locked out of a range character when you need to kill a far enemy. You can't choose when they come in, or when they leave, and since you can't switch to them, or issue commands. you basically just lose an active character, making fights harder. (It's Pretty much anti Co-op) But it can be disabled.

but there's still fun to be had, and the combat, (that starts a bit rough) can be a lot of fun!
You're pretty much forced to always bring one healer, and one range character, as pretty much every zone goal is "Kill everything" and people can spawn at elevations you can't reach.
But with the size of the cast, It's likely you'll find a least one fun party setup

The 'Crisis Core' roots are very clear, but where that had fun legacy characters mixed with questionable new ones,
This games roster feels like it's filled with far too many main characters with far too little depth.

I'm sure the story and cast will have their fans, I won't call either 'bad' per say, but I'd argue both may fall outside of the preference of a majority of what people would expect/want from a Final Fantasy game.
