I saw a review suggesting Here Comes Niko! isn't worth $25 because it can be completed quickly and is not jam-packed with content and features. That's a silly mentality to have towards games because they cost a lot of money to make and indies don't sell in great enough quantities to have much flexibility in pricing. If you aren't sold on the idea of paying $25 for a cutesy, laid back 3D platformer with fun movement and forgiving controls then by all means wait to get it on sale, but if you think the idea sounds fun and the promotional images make it look like the sort of thing you're into then $25 is a totally fair price. I've yet to complete it but I've been utterly charmed, and I think it's been worth its price tag already!

Final Fantasy V holds up really well, and feels like a refinement of everything good about Final Fantasy I-IV. Unless you're just used to this game's SNES or GBA aesthetics (I am not) the Pixel Remaster is a fine way to enjoy this classic JRPG!

That said though, it *is* a Square Enix PC release, so technical issues are to be expected. The worst: when facing the gargoyles within the ocean rift in the merged world, the game froze up and had to be forced to quit multiple times. I fixed this issue by going to a different area, fighting a bunch of different enemies, and then coming back. After looking into it, I never saw anyone else with this issue, so who knows!
Other than that, the minor annoyances: sometimes the game takes a while to load after launch, sometimes battle scenes take time to shift (i.e. if you were fighting enemies in a forest area then enter the desert, the first desert enemies you encounter may briefly load with a forest background), and the ATB gauge doesn't seem to increase smoothly in some busier fights,

Overall, I think the work Square Enix has done with the Pixel Remasters to recreate these games for modern platforms is pretty cool, and this is a fine way to experience a very good game.

I agonized over whether to get the original Final Fantasy 8 listing on Steam or the Remastered version, because I read a lot of horror stories about the FF8 remaster just not working very well.
Having completed the game, I think the bug fixing updates Square Enix has made since the game's launch have ironed out a lot of the serious problems. I think most people should be capable of running this game with only minor technical issues, but I would suggest refunding it if you have any serious issues within the first couple hours of playing the game.
Anyway, here are the technical issues I ran into:
1. The most annoying by far was constant visual tearing when playing in borderless windowed mode. I ended up playing the game entirely in full screen, which I basically never do, because I like being able to click away to do something else or take a screen snip without the game freaking out. (I just paused the game and checked stuff on my phone instead, lol.)
2. Any time my computer went to sleep while the game was still open, it crashed. I'm not talking about deep sleep, but just, like, the regular sleep your computer goes into after maybe 30 minutes or so away from it. Honestly? You might consider changing your power saving settings if you're going to step away from the game and can't find a save point. *Don't* rely on the autosave, because sometimes it can be hours -- if not *an entire disc* -- behind. I don't have a clue what triggers the autosave aside from some story events.
3. After defeating Sphinxaur (the first mid-boss of Ultimecia Castle on Disc 4) using Battle Assist mode and 3x speed, the game crashed. Thankfully, it's right before a save point, but it's worth mentioning because that was the only crash I encountered while actively playing the game.
4. Once, upon launching the game, I noticed all of the sound effects were gone. I had to restart the game to get them back.

As for the game itself: wow! Fresh off of the success of the beloved Final Fantasy 7, it looks like the folks at Square Enix decided to get a little weird with this one. The game starts with the main character taking his exam to become a member of a mercenary force for hire, and then goes completely and totally off the rails.
The turn-based combat with ATB is pretty much standard, so I appreciated the remaster's 3x speed and battle assist modes that allowed me to break the game wide open and make random encounters and most early to mid-game bosses trivial. That said, it doesn't entirely override all of the gameplay, and you'll spend plenty of time learning about the Junction feature used to modify your character's stats, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, which becomes crucial later in the game.
Something worth noting is that the game uses level scaling to determine how hard enemies should be based on your party members' levels. As such, you really, really do not want to grind at all until you have unlocked all six main party members and are in a position to swap them out so you can level them up equally. I ran into some trouble in the late game because the main character was level 70-something while my other party members were somewhere between level 50 and level 20. I ended up toggling on the cheat codes and giving up the 'you beat the game' achievement after losing to the final boss because it was going to be extremely difficult to win otherwise, even with Battle Assist turned on.
Unrelated, but you might consider looking up a guide to find side quests and where to get the optional Guardian Forces. A lot of that stuff isn't really obvious without sinking a lot of time into exploring the world map, and even then it isn't always easy to find.

All in all, I think it's totally worth playing if you're a fan of JRPGs or other Final Fantasy games, and the Remaster adds those quality of life features that make me glad I picked it over the original PC release.
It's one of the wilder mainline entries in the series for sure!

Before I talk about the game as the interactive artwork it is, huge disclaimer: Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition is a very resource intensive game, even four years after its launch, and especially on higher settings with optional NVIDIA hair/environment enhancements enabled. I have a system that exceeds the recommended specifications but still experienced slowdown in a handful of areas in the overworld, one of the mid-boss fights in Chapter 14 of the game, and a handful of significant story cutscenes. In two instances the game froze up and required a restart. In two other instances, the game crashed outright. In a handful of other instances, I had to save and reload to return to a stable 60 FPS. *There was even one instance where I had to restart my computer entirely.* There were also issues with sidequest NPCs not spawning when they were supposed to, which had to be fixed by saving and reloading. Most of these issues occurred after the 40 hour point in the game for me, so if you're having any trouble maintaining at least a capped 30 FPS at the start of the game, please consider refunding it before the Steam refund window runs out -- the game only seems to get more resource intensive the farther you are in the story. If you do decide to keep playing, save frequently: autosave is great, but it doesn't autosave as frequently as one might hope, and in one instance a crash caused me to lose a little over an hour's worth of sidequesting.

All of that aside, the game is a lot of fun, and the 80 hours of playtime I put into it felt worthwhile. I was skeptical of an all-male roster of main party members, but honestly, road tripping with the boys was a delight and there were a lot of great moments with plenty of other characters, too.
I found the story quite compelling as far as Final Fantasy plots go, and was surprised to learn partway through my playthrough that the Windows Edition automatically comes with the Royal DLC, which adds additional sidequests to the game and expands the story's final area as a result.
Gameplay is also quite good, and a step up from FF13 imo. I played on normal mode with the wait timer enabled (combat freezes when the player stops moving and causes the wait timer to start ticking down; combat can no longer be frozen during the encounter when the wait timer runs out) and found the difficulty was just right for me. I also found it rewarding to encounter and run from megafauna in the overworld that I later came back to fell, and I enjoyed being able to upgrade the party's car to be able to run over enemies in the road and ward off daemons, as well as go off-road.
FF15 is a great action RPG, and totally worth giving a try so long as you're confident your computer can handle it!

(POST-GAME OPINIONS: I originally wrote the above review after completing Chapter 14, which concludes the game's main story. When the credits roll it will ask you to choose a save file through which you will load the post-game, which is contained in Chapter 15. You *must* choose a manual save file, not an auto save file. I failed to do this correctly and had to fight the final boss again to rectify it.
Upon loading Chapter 15, I was given a message saying 'some game functions would be unavailable in the post-game and hunts would be reset.' With hunts reset, you're back to being a level one hunter. I spent tens of hours getting up to Rank 4 hunting prior to completing Chapter 14 and now I have to do that all over again to take on higher rank hunts. Theoretically, if I had a manual save where I was still in Chapter 14, I could go back and finish all of my hunting before finishing the main story... but I overwrote my only manual save slot with the Chapter 15 save because the message about hunts being reset doesn't come up until you load Chapter 15 via the chapter select. While resetting hunts allows the player to gain all of the rewards from these hunts again, it means you're going to have to redo a lot of hunts to get back up to the level you were at. Personally, I would rather be able to continue with my hunting rank intact so I can just do the hunts I haven't completed yet -- I don't need the gil or extra accessories/items gained from completing the hunts again.
Chapter 15 also resets a ton of sidequests. On one hand, it means easy sources of getting more experience, but it's also super annoying being level 70-something and then being given level 6 quests I've already done before. As for the game functions that are unavailable, it seems like the off-road Regalia is gone, but the game allows you to convert it into a combination car/airship instead. You have to re-clear one of the imperial bases to get the part you need, and it kind of seems like other imperial bases are also reset -- if you've done the Final Fantasy 14 tie-in sidequest, that one resets for sure. Anyway, about the flying Regalia: immediately after converting the Regalia to its airship form, I drove away from Cindy's shop without even flying and the game crashed.
I think I might be giving up on the post-game and sticking with my fond memories of Chapters 1 through 14. I might revisit FF15 for the character-specific DLC eventually, but the main game's post-game has lost its luster now that I know how much in the world has been reset and then immediately crashed in an area where I've never had performance issues before. Sure, there are new quests, but the whole map is undiscovered and all of the fast travel points you've unlocked are gone, so even though you keep your levels, items, equipment and Regalia upgrades, in a lot of ways it feels like you're back to square one.)

I had heard that this game was good back when it was primarily playable on the web via the creator's Itch.io page, but it didn't really seem interesting to me so I put off playing it. I'm glad I did, because the Steam version has added a lot more content and polish, with a good number of characters, levels, and items to unlock that impact how you play the game. I've seen a number of "Vampire Survivors-esque" games since its release that have nowhere near as much depth or charm, and are worse off for it. I'm very pleased!

This is a port of a Nintendo DS/PSP game from an era when Square Enix's PC ports were very, very rough. Rougher than they are nowadays. Allow me to outline all the ways in which that is true for this game:
• There is a launcher that comes up every time you open the game. It is not compatible with controllers, so you'll have to click the play button to get into the actual game. This doesn't bother me, but if you're playing on a TV it totally would.
• Certain character animations appear to stutter, in particular, the main characters' battle idle animations and their victory screen animations.
• Every time the game has to load an animation that you haven't yet used during a play session it freezes for a second or two.
• The font used for the text doesn't really fit the whole fantasy vibe. It's serviceable. That said, the text isn't just confined to text boxes...
• ... in some instances, the contrast between the color of the text and the background isn't very high, which can make it hard to read.

None of these are deal breakers, though! So let's get into game design choices that I'm not big on:
• You can only save on the world map, there are no save points added to dungeons, so if you die you could have to make up half an hour to multiple hours of lost progress, which means grinding feels necessary at certain points.
• With the auto battle feature, grinding isn't a slog of constant button mashing, thankfully. That said, the game never explains how auto battle works, and if you're coming from newer Final Fantasy games you might expect it to be 'smart' and use the most effective moves or heal your characters when necessary. Instead, it just copies the moves you used on your previous turn, so if you used Raise to revive a character last turn and hit auto battle this turning your white mage is going to keep using Raise whether you need to or not. (I suggest finding enemies you can defeat with just physical attacks and using auto battle to grind against those, that way you're not using up all of your MP.)
• The plot is modified from the original to make the game more in line with modern Final Fantasy plots (giving the main characters names and defining their individual relationships with NPCs in the world), but the dialogue still feels like it's constrained. There's a brevity to English translations of Japanese NES games that seems to exist in this DS remake as well. The translation is not objectionable, it's good, even, it just feels like more dialog would have helped the game better achieve its goal of fleshing the world and characters out.
• The brevity of the dialog, combined with a very basic world map that shows you towns and dungeons you've visited but doesn't tell you what they're called, can make figuring out where to go difficult sometimes. After the first few hours of the game (I beat it in around 40 hours) I started using a guide, which directed me to some side quests I likely never would have undertaken otherwise. For example, there's an optional dungeon where an NPC standing out front tells you very bluntly: 'only dark knights can make it through this cave!' but that's not true, what he actually means is that the cave contains enemies that are able to multiply themselves and dark knights can use weapons that prevent enemies from multiplying. I made it to the end and got the treasure without a dark knight in my party just fine.
• I know this is a staple in older JRPGs due to cartridge space constraints, but it's weird to be fighting a big boss battle and then, 15 minutes later, run through a dungeon and get into a random encounter fight with an enemy that's just a recolor of the boss I fought a few minutes ago. It's one thing to re-use basic enemies, but re-using bosses outside of areas where it thematically makes sense to do so cheapens the impact of those boss fights.

So, why do I still recommend it?
I bought and played through the first dungeon of the game in the Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster, and it just feels like a mess with low detail pixel art for characters/enemies, highly detailed pixel art backgrounds, and a high resolution aliased font. I could maybe look past that if there were significant quality of life improvements, but there aren't as far as I know.
While I don't think the PC port of Final Fantasy III's 3D Remake is *incredible,* I can say wholeheartedly that it feels like it was designed by a team who loved the source material and were dedicated to making a version of the game that was unique but still upheld the original's legacy.
Though I did have a couple of frustrating deaths that required me to make up a lot of lost progress, that's a classic JRPG for you, baby!
In short, it was totally worth the time I invested into playing it, and if you're trying to decide which version of Final Fantasy III to buy on Steam, I would suggest you pick this one.

Cookie Clicker has been the best idle game in the game from the day it launched over a decade ago. I don't know if that's controversial or not, but I believe it wholeheartedly, and I've played tons of idle games!

Don't let my time played on Steam fool you, I've invested hundreds of hours in Cookie Clicker's web version over the years, and the stuffed added to the Steam release is huge for me. With a wonderful soundtrack from C418, Steam achievements, and cloud saves, buying Cookie Clicker on Steam is a no-brainer for anyone who enjoys the idle genre.

Saints Row III is generally regarded as the best Saints Row game, and while I definitely think it's the epitome of the series' gang-based gameplay, Saints Row IV brings something different to the table with its unique setting and super power-like abilities.
