Imagine not knowing what this game is about in 2023, and playing it without looking anything up. If you have no clue, dont spoil yourself and just buy and play. The Forest is pretty much a perfect example of an former "Early Access" game, done right.

It makes no sense to try to get good at this game as a killer. No matter what you do, 4 survivors in VOIP, sometimes even mid-skilled, will always win against you. No matter what perks, no matter what tactics you use: Against a coordinated team of good survivors, it is impossible to win (4 Kills or even 3K with hatch). While the game´s mechanics are all about information gathering (seeing, hearing or sensing other players is crucial but not always possible), it allows survivors to play with premade teams that can essentially play around the game's mechanics by talking to each other. Don´t get me wrong: It can be fun in the beginning, but starting from a certain skill level, the game design does not make any sense anymore. And I didn't even touch on the toxity and trolling which is extremely high.

Early Access Review
I said it back in 2018, and I'll say it again: You always meet twice in life.

It is back.

I STOLE this for 2€.

Seriously, if you got 3-4 hours and this game is on sale, grab it and don't spoil yourself!

I think the game is great, but some people might find it a bit disturbing. It is a horror game after all.

It is actually not that scary! :) A solid Co-Op horror experience, and pretty much all the players in multiplayer are very friendly! But even in Solo Mode the game can be enjoyable if you are a up for a nice challenge. The game can be hard and frustrating sometimes, but for me personally it never felt unfair. Also, the achievements are good (one is very grindy though) and encourage you to play on the harder modes as well. At roughly 4€ or 5$ this game is a steal. Highly recommended!

With the release of Kaycee's Mod, this game definitely got into my Top 10.

As always a great puzzle game from the Room franchise. Weird mix between real and fiction. Animations and graphics were the most beautiful to be seen in a Room game as of yet. Bought during sale, but worth every penny (or cent). Buy it!

Good game. Levels are very well designed. Sometimes the number of solutions is a bit too limited though, especially with the missions were you have to complete a level within a certain number of turns. Some levels only have pretty much one solution for this, so it is a lot of trial and error sometimes. If you don't want to "cheat" with Steam guides (and you shouldn't because this is a great game and very rewarding) and you just can't seem to find a solution now, you can just come back later and try the missions of the level again. To make progress in the game you just have to complete the main objective.

There are surprisingly many enemy types for the kind of game in my opinion, and different items also spice things up a bit. The levels are minimalistic but built with love and the graphics and animations fit nicely together to get this cute tabletop feeling. Achievements are definitely doable on your own as well (if you have the patience and / or are a fast thinker), they even warn you before using hints that you won't be able to unlock one achievement that requires you to play through the entire game without using hints. (If you do use hints, you can reset your game progress and play again without hints, so there is no real blocker that keeps you from getting it.) This warning is a very nice QoL feature for Achievement Hunters, and one that a lot of games should implement to avoid bad surprises at the end of the game.

Overall a good puzzle game that I would recommend to both casual and regular puzzle players.
