If you get tired of osu! for a while, I would recommend this to dubstep fans. It also has great achievements, that force you to get invested in the game though, so completionists watch out.

If you buy this for 1 buck, and want to see if first person horror games are something for you, then please go ahead and buy it. Because if you think this game is too scary then stay away from horror. It is a VERY mild horror (or should I say "spooky") game. If you ignore some minor to game breaking bugs and rusty nasty movement / controls, the story could be interesting enough if you are very bored AND you can read. Otherwise, stay away. There are better games out there.

P.S.: For an indie game, it sure is pretty though.

SUPERHOT but it's an action game and not a puzzler.

Glad I got this for free (since I owned SUPERHOT since 2017), because this game really ditched the best part for more weapons, enemies and skills - the puzzle part. Don't get me wrong, this is a good game, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who does not love (or own) the first game.

The first game was sometimes a bit buggy, and it was very minimalistic (one type of enemy, 5 weapons, some throwables) but the thing that made it special (for me at least) was, that it was a puzzle game at its core. You simply could not beat some levels without replaying them countless times before you knew who to shoot first, what to throw and when to hotswitch. The most rewarding achievement of the first game was unlocked when completing all challenges, the most diffcult one being "NORESTART". It challenged you to know the game by heart at the end, having to complete all 25 levels in succession without dying even once. It felt rewarding. It felt special. Instead, achievements in this game are a joke compared to the original. You pretty much can't miss any and they do not make you feel good.

In terms of story, it is also a step back from the first one. Sure, the execution and the ideas are not too bad, but you have to dig veeeery deep before getting some meaning out of the "plot". The ending is in essence the same like in the first game, only a bit different. And speaking of digging deeper, I didn't really find looking for secrets cool in this game. You have more enemies to deal with, and even after destroying all the weapons they could use (so they don't shoot you while exploring), they are still too many most of the time because you can't kill them all since otherwise the level would end. This makes looking for the secrets very annoying and very grindy.

Key word "grind": This game is pretty much grind. As I stated above they got rid of the puzzle factor of the game, so all you can really do is play the same maps over and over again only with more enemy types and skills later on. I found most skills to be useful and not like many others state all too different in strength. It mostly depends on your playstyle and the amount of levels in the node. But yeah, the .core (I see what you did there) principle stays the same. Grind levels until done.

SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE is definitely MORE. But unfortunately not MORE of the most important stuff that set the game apart from others 5 years ago. In conclusion, if you love the SUPERHOT franchise and played the first game buy it if you don't mind grind and the missing puzzle mechanic (e.g. you just want to have some fun shooting red dudes with a speargun). If you just want to give the SUPERHOT franchise a try then you are better of buying the first game (which is fantastic by the way).
I don't think SUPERHOT should receive any more titles after MIND CONTROL DELETE. Minimalistic franchises like this one tend to only use the famous title of the game to induce sales and will never reach the goodness of the original that made it famous to begin with. Let us just remember SUPERHOT they way it was and open our mind for new, exciting games to come.

Bizzare and confusing story. I understood like 25% percent of the story, then read some summaries to understand the rest. It is not a horror game, more adventure style with horror elements. The game is not hard, but I found myself often lost and spent an awful amount of time aimlessly wandering about. Even with the (when you finally complete the puzzle obvious seeming) hints the notes provide, sometimes the map design makes it kind of difficult to guess what's coming next. The story, although confusing, is still okay and the horror really comes only from immersing yourself into the sounds and especially notes you find along the way. In addition this game is guilty of (luckily only one) cheap jump scare moment. The notes use old language and so (for today's standards) exotic wording, but fit to the setting and if you have enough imagination let you dive deep into this disgusting machine for pigs.

Edit 2024: I read about the removal of support for Linux and Steam Deck. Because of "cheaters"? What the F? Here, have my thumbs down. Was a good game though a few years ago.

Original review from April 2021:

Very nice animations, nice music, no pay-to-win, not so nice 14 y.o. addict kiddies as my enemies. What else do you need?

Apex Legends, even though sometimes matches can be very disappointing, feels like the developers actually cared about making a good game and not yet another BR that came a bit late to the party. The dialogue is good and the maps are great. Recommended for mentally strong players up for a challenge.

I am positively surprised about the state of this game. Sure, it took 5 whole years to get there and it is STILL in Early Access, but at least it runs smooth with no crashes and no game breaking bugs. You can also escape now, finally, although there is a need to improve the end game scenario since a lot of players might not be happy about the "end" of the game after all the work they put into getting there . The movement is a bit clunky though, and animations can feel and look a little off from time to time.

Stuff is spawning back a lot faster than it did the last time I played, roughly 2 years ago, which is good because this doesn't necessarily require you to leave an island after 2 in-game days. Sharks also don't one-shot anymore. It is already a hard survival game on normal mode, but there is a creative mode for builders or easy-goers and even a hard mode (with optional permadeath) for those who want to suffer.

I always loved the idea of the island builder with the option to edit existing islands or create new ones from scratch. A little more options and models would be cool to have though, after 5 years of development... I am talking more rocks formations, caves etc. Or the ability to build below the water surface without the water filling the hole. Still you can create some nice stuff with the island builder, which is especially useful for adding a few larger islands, since the auto-generated ones tend to be a bit more of a smaller scale. For those who can think of more fun activities than creating or editing islands, the Steam Workshop offers a quantity of islands made by others.

Finally, achievements make this game motivating to play and give you some clear goals to reach, which makes the grind to survive a little more pleasant. All in all, I can finally recommend this game in its current state.
