Half Life 2 just had its 20 year anniversary update. This update came with some added features to Half Life 2 like a workshop, it also broke this game even more than it was before even though they said they were going to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fix.

There's a reason this game is unlisted from the steam store page, it's because Valve know that they're never actually going to fix this game.

Child: Mom, can we get Left 4 Dead 2?
Mom: We have Left 4 Dead 2 at home.
Left 4 Dead 2 at home:

Hi there. I bought this game when it was 90% off, and I'm still refunding it. It's MAYBE worth it for the $6 is costs at 90% off only if you have friends who will play it with you, too. And even then, you'd be better off buying Left 4 Dead 2 instead since it has so much more of a refined gameplay mechanic and community mod support. If you're looking for a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead 2, you'd be better off just buying the Original Left 4 Dead because it's more fun than this. Or save your money and don't!

I was able to ADS once, and then for some inexplicable reason I lost the ability shortly after when right click just slowed my walking speed. Guns have strikingly low accuracy making shotguns the most fun way to play the game, and once you find an AA-12, the game essentially becomes the peaceful mode from Minecraft.

The cutscenes were choppy and hard to follow, which were aimed at giving the characters had backstories... I think. I was supposed to care about them... I think. The game itself ran fairly smooth I guess, I didn't really know what I was doing at any one moment, the characters may have been talking about it but the voice acting was so 5/10 that I was more fixated on that than what they were actually saying.

Finding ammo is a bit painful because ammo piles are meant specifically for certain weapon classes (I.E Handguns and SMGs, Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, etc.) so I think you just had to get lucky with item spawns. Not a fan, personally.

My bud GordonGman who gave me particularly large sums of ♥♥♥♥ described the game as being "Left 4 Dead 2 but worse and with everything that makes modern shooters bad" and that is an aggravatingly accurate description. I play a LOT of Left 4 Dead 2 with my friends, GordonGman included. So for me, trying this game once was worth it because I just wanted to see what it was like for myself. I don't regret that decision, but I still won't be keeping the game. So if you want to try this game, do like I did. Buy it, set a timer on your phone for an hour and a half, and go in for it. If at the end of that hour and a half you decide you like the game, which you probably won't, decide from there what to do.

I'll say this. The game isn't BAD, it's just not very good. It's definitely not something that commands a $60 price tag, especially with the game being about three years old now too. It feels too much like a Chinese knock off of Left 4 Dead where the devs just threw modern game ideas at the wall haphazardly to see what stuck without any real care.

A few glitches in the menus but nothing unexpected from an early access release. Usually fixed by just restarting the game, which doesn't take too long to do fortunately. That said, this game being early access, it still feels more complete than most "finished" games being released today... which is depressing but that's not this games fault.

The game comes complete with many, very large levels for you to play your way through numerous times with numerous groups of friends or strangers online to have many different kinds of encounters over many different sessions. The gameplay itself is incredibly tense, and by extension is very fun in my opinion ONLY when you're playing with the right people.

This game does have a few elements that bother me however, and unfortunately that will draw up the majority of what I write in this review despite this game being an overall good experience and one I would recommend. One of which is that when you're just playing with friends, it forces you to take the game a little too seriously I guess? From what I'm told, you can't really just run in and screw around because the grades you get at the end of each level actually impact online play quite a bit. I don't actually know because my friends were so adamant about me not running-and-gunning that I never really got an opportunity to check. So having a mode where you can just storm buildings and gun down every living person as a joke like you're the einsatzgruppen or something in addition to the super serious SWAT operation simulator would DRAMATICALLY improve this games longevity in terms of playability over a long period of time and would make the game much more worth the money in my opinion. I understand that kind of joke gameplay isn't necessarily what this game is trying to achieve, but this is a video game after all and they're supposed to be enjoyable. And in general I can't think of a terribly good reason why you COULDN'T add something like that either. I can't imagine it would require much more than a few hours of programming to make happen... not that I'd know anything about that.

Beyond that, and this may be more subjective than anything, the gunplay in this game is very off for me. It may just need some time to improve, but I've noticed myself trying to shoot through railings at people and only ever hitting the railing I'm trying to shoot through. And sometimes people seem to just take way too many shots to actually kill, which while not being necessarily outside of the realms of possibility in real life, from a gameplay perspective it isn't super attractive either. But there are lots of variations in the guns you can go in with, many lethal, some less than lethal too. They all feel unique and have some customization options as far as barrel extensions, sights and grips, albeit I feel like it could benefit from having more options too (particularly in the sights department). Surely more will come in the future.

Another issue I have with this game, and this is the biggest one of all, is just the doors. Since a lot of this game is being swift, stealthy, tactical and efficient, the fact that performing certain actions with doors in this game is relegated to just looking at different parts of different doors and hitting the action button to perform them seems incredibly janky. I'll find myself trying to peek under doors with the optiwand only to accidently kick it open by accident, break my leg and set off an explosive trap on the otherside unintentionally while killing a hostage and being shot to kingdom come by some "CYKA BLYAT" screaming balaclava wearing AI. A better system since I believe this is a PC exclusive title might be to just make kicking in doors one button (perhaps B since that's the closest there is to a real melee button in this game and it's close enough to F, the action button), and opening doors another button (cracking a door being done by holding F, and opening it being done by just tapping it, or vice versa) while the ability of peeking under doors being exclusive to just pulling the optiwand out of your inventory and just clicking on the door you wanna look under.

Overall it seems to me to be a very polished game experience even in its current state, and certainly worth looking at if you want a fairly hardcore SWAT simulator with good graphics and an emphasis on tactics and reliance on team coordination. I enjoy the game for what it is, even regardless of all that I said before. The only major issue for me is the doors and I hope they're fixed soon.

I'd like to start off by saying that the gameplay itself CAN be fun - and this review predates the release of the Campaign. Take this with a grain of salt if I happen to forget to update my review.

Returning weapons like the AR, BR, Needler, Gravity Hammer and Energy Sword etc. all feel really fun to use - go figure, their entire gameplay element was designed by a company that actually knew what they were doing. The needler is a bit overpowered, but even Bungie had some issues with that historically anyway. So I'll give them a pass on that. They even brought back the Sentinel Beam, which had me elated. The take some issue with how long the plasma pistol takes to charge up and how light the homing effect is on the charged shot as well. There's also a slew of new guns added into the sandbox by 343, more on those in a minute.

An issue I do have is that some of the guns aren't really referred to by their basic names - what I mean by this is that the DMR stand in isn't called the "DMR" like it should be, it's called the "VK78 Commando" for some reason, the pistol is the "MK50 Sidekick" as well, so on, so forth. So for me and my friends, we've just taken to calling them our own names which means that coordination with other players who we aren't used to playing with can be... complicated since we don't want to sit there and say "YO THAT BOY GOT THE VK78 COMMANDO" instead of the "DMR". Not that the VOIP works anyway in my experience. Anyway, naturally I've had some issues so far with even memorizing the names of some of the weapons. I always was fond of Bungie sticking with very simplistic names for their guns - The hand gun was "The Magnum", the gun with the large magazine and full auto was the "Assault Rifle", the longer more precision based burst fire weapon was the "Battle Rifle", the long range precision rifle with a small magazine capacity and single shot fire mode was the "Sniper rifle" and so on. Of course, they all had ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ manufacturer names for models and everything in LORE, but that wasn't brought into the game and was intended only for hard core fans of the halo universe... something I was never particularly interested in. Kinda feels like they're trying to shove it down my throat.

Again, 343 has also added a bunch of new guns to the sandbox as well in addition to returning guns from Bungie entries. Most of them do not feel as though they fit in with the weapon sandbox, such as the "Skewer" - or as I called it, the "big useless piece of ♥♥♥♥ rail gun thing", the "Mangler", or as I called it "The completely useless hand held shotgun thing", or the "Hydra" - or as I called it, the "Rifle explody thing that doesn't do nearly enough damage to justify how little ammo it has", or the "Disruptor" - or as my friend called it, the "Plasma shock glock thing". You get the idea - not that all of their weapons are necessarily bad, but they just don't feel as refined as the Bungie weapons. And even some of the Bungie weapons seem to suffer from a lot of severe stat tinkering on behalf of 343. Some is good, I think the Assault Rifle, or "MA40 Assault Rifle" because apparently it wasn't enough to the nerds to just call it the Assault Rifle, is the best it's ever been in Halo Infinite! It's actually a decent weapon for once, and that is a genuine first for the series. But the Plasma Pistol? The rocket launcher? None feel very good.

Armor abilities return as well in a strange kinda way. A hybrid of how they kinda sorta worked in Halo 3 where they were limited use (like the bubble shield - you throw it once and it's used up) and in Halo Reach where any given armor ability would recharge over time. Some armor abilities, like the grapple hook that many people were really excited for, can be used three times before you need to find a new armor ability. Ones like active camo are single use. Which is fine but really makes me think twice before ever using anything - not that I usually even realize I've got them anyway. Some of them, like the "Repulsor" are incredibly situational and have very limited uses. Others like the grapple shot are really hard to counter in a lot of cases making it seem rather unfair if someone kills you after grappling you, or jacks your vehicle after grappling onto it... even if it's really fun to do to someone else.

So gameplay wise, while a lot is wrong with the game, again, the gameplay can be fun! It's a mixed bag, really. Get some buds to play with, and I can imagine most players will find some enjoyment out of this game. And even if you don't, the multiplayer is FTP. The only thing you'll necessarily be wasting is your time.

But my biggest issue with this game by far has nothing to do with the gameplay itself. The battlepass system is the real killer of this game. I won't get into the specifics of how it works, but in order to pretty much have any form of armor customization, this does include armor colours and emblems by the way, you have to rank up in a certain battle pass by completing different challenges (which feels randomized and is a complete slog to do), and even when you do level up in the correct battlepass category to get the armor, colour or emblem thing you want, you still have to actually go and buy separate battlepasses. For reference, this means that armor customization in Halo Infinite is, at its core, worse than Halo: Combat Evolved, the first ever Halo game released back in 2001, twenty father-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ years ago. Whoever thought this idea was by any means superior to whatever Halo had before, should be fired. I understand that this may have been done to allow for 343 to collect on money since the game itself was made FTP, but I'd rather have just bought the multiplayer itself for $30 or $60 bucks and had a Halo Reach system of getting armor than whatever ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up system they have here. This isn't even mentioning the fact that some of the armor itself needs to be unlocked in week long events that happen once a month or so.

I understand that 343 can do whatever they want with their product, and it is ultimately my choice whether I play it or pay for it in any way. But it would be nice if companies like 343 would actually go and listen to the community when we’ve been telling them for years now that microtransactions and paid ♥♥♥♥ like this isn’t anything we want in the games we play. I guess that’s asking too much though!

This review was written in a very relatively short time frame and I fear it may be a bit sporadic for its own good. Overall I’d say my experience with this game has been rather disappointing. The gameplay, again, can be good! It’s just that it can also be kinda bad! And mixed in with everything else, such as the unbalanced weapons (which I’m hoping will be balanced by the time the campaign comes out on the eighth of December) and the battlepass system, I just can’t bring myself to give this game a positive review.

I wanted to like this game in the worst way. I wanted to tell myself that, despite the odds and despite all historical evidence proving that 343 really doesn’t give a ♥♥♥♥ about the Halo community in any shape or form, that they didn’t understand the building blocks that went into making older Halo games great, that this could somehow shape up into being a good game! And maybe the campaign WILL be good! But if it’s gonna be anything like the multiplayer system right now, I don’t hold high hopes. I should have known 343 would stuff this up. That’s what I get for being optimistic. A wise man did once say “Optimists are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥”, should have listened.

I may even update this when the campaign comes out and once I have more experience in the game. We’ll see :D

You break things in the video game because you can't in real life without being sent to a mental institution. There really isn't too much else to it, but it is early access, and it's good fun for a good while.

You're not exactly breaking the bank buying it, either. Although it is somewhat intensive on semi-old hardware. My old computer that I bought in late 2016 could run the game fairly well on lowered graphics as long as there wasn't too much fire. Most computers built within the past two or three years should be able to handle it, though.

So basically, 343 realized that they can't actually make good games, right? So what they ended up doing was just packaging up Bungie's old, and arguably perfect games and porting them on PC as a shameless cash grab. And still, somehow, they managed to screw a lot of things up.

A lot of games were in out-right broken states upon their release, most notably Halo 2. Now, bare in mind, 343 did hold open beta's for public testing and bug fixing. But so many big, game breaking bugs would still make it through to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ publishing of the games to the Collection. Almost as though the open beta's were nothing but a shallow attempt at making people think that 343 actually gave a ♥♥♥♥ about the halo community, which they don't, they just like money. And I do honestly believe that. My opinion of 343 is obviously very low, and I think that's totally justified considering how they treated this game, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Krabs himself ran 343, because it's pretty damn obvious they only care about money.

HOWEVER, I will recommend this game to people just because the campaign's alone make the game worth buying. I still find Halo 2's multiplayer to be hilariously broken (to me, anyway) but games like Halo CE, 3 and Reach are fine and can be damn fun if you find games with the right people. It's still Halo, at least Reach - ODST are. It's hard to necessarily go wrong.

Generally speaking, I would consider this game to be a flawed gem, and a shadow of what it used to be. Still good, still recommended though.

PS: Just be prepared to be setting up controls for a fair while. It's important to remember that there are five feature length games bundled up here (six if you include ODST) that released over a period of thirteen years.

It's like CS:GO but people don't know how the guns work, so if you're like me and remember, you just go in and clean house. Then everybody gets really angry and cry like babies. Waaaaah.

The combat is total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and some of the puzzles are a bit uhh... unfair. Namely one involving a steam vent puzzle where you need to time your movement across a floor of steam that instantly kills you towards the end of the game. I wouldn't classify that as a spoiler so much as just a warning of what's on the road ahead should you choose to pick up this game and give it a try, which you should!

The combat can be forgiven considering it's not the primary focus of the game. You're not Master Chief, you should prioritize hiding and sneaking like Sam Fisher. And yes, some of the puzzles are ball busters! You should be able to get through most of them by just reading notes and paying attention, though. Except for the steam one, that one is just pure luck. I remember having difficulty with a puzzle involving a generator earlier on, but I wound up solving it on my first go without the need of a guide on my first go this time around.

I also prefer this game to Amnesia for the setting. I've heard this game described as having more of a "The Thing" kind of setting as opposed to the sort of Medieval setting that Amnesia has. That's not a bad thing, either! It's definitely a cool feeling, punctuated by the second installment in the series "Black Plague" which delves even further into that sort of setting, whilst refining some of the games features and removing the dodgy combat mechanics all together.

So yes, absolutely give this game a try! Just be aware that you may need a guide at some point too unless you plan on being stuck in one place for a long period of time. Also - one important note that I will leave you with:

Combine the hammer with the jerry (gas) can. Just do it.

The graphics in this game are worse than F.E.A.R and F.E.A.R Extraction point, and the voice acting is laughable. The story makes no sense since there is no other F.E.A.R team and there's no explanation for Sergeant having his slowmo capabilities. Interval 3: "Apprehension" in this game is one of the worst FPS levels I've ever played, and despite this I still recommend this game.

My recommendation to anybody who gives this game a try is to just turn off your brain for a little while and just treat the game like it's just a fan made mod. It isn't, but just pretend like it is. The combat is still fun (again except for interval 3) and I think that the ending part of the game where you're wandering through the halls of the labs is actually really fun, and a strong point in all of the three F.E.A.R games IMO.

Because look, no matter how bad Perseus Mandate is in comparison to F.E.A.R and Extraction Point, it's still better than F.3.A.R and there's nothing you can say to change my mind about that.
