Lightning in a bottle. Helldivers 2 is a highly detailed, heavily satirical, goofball co-op shooter that is both awe inspiring and ungodly stupid in the best of ways. Despite its faults with a catastrophically successful launch, recent explosive controversies, game-breaking as well as just game-irritating bugs, and the general negative discourse of having nearly a million people or more actively criticizing design/balance choices, the game stands proudly as a real labor of love.

Arrowhead Studios' sense of fun clearly hasn't changed since the days of Magicka, and I'm so glad it hasn't. It's obvious from each and every little detail that Helldivers 2 was a game made solely for the joy of playing it, and for me at least it succeeds with thunderous applause, complete with plenty of confetti and pyrotechnics, of course.
