Focused around being a factory game, Satisfactory challenges you in progressivly more complex and intersting ways. Its onboarding of you into the game, its rules, and its environment is expertly crafted to gradually ramp up the complexity until you're making incredibly complex production chains you never thought realistic. Combined with an amazing world to explore, and the right loop of pushing you to explore, build up, research etc, this game is truly addictive. Beautiful to boot, and with a ton of options to customise and make your factory not just functional but stunning to look at gives this game the strongest reccomendation.

This is a great game that captures the feeling of western front warfare through it's campaign (fighting over the same ground time and again) and unforgiving strategy where mistakes or miscalculation can leave your troops exposed and vulnerable, infantry caught in the open will be gunned down in moments, and often you'll pay for any gains with the lives of countless soldiers. That may sound grim but it means that pulling off a well timed assault or a desperate counterattack is very rewarding, taking or holding a single trench line feels like a great success, and catching your opponent in a trap or a solid defensive position gives a sense of triumph given the pain they've inflicted on your own side.

The game isn't without it's hiccups but is probably the best strategy version of WW1 out there and is a really interesting game to play, and rewarding one to play well.

Great gameplay loop between mining and returning to fight off the creatures. Encourages risk taking (or at least I take a lot of risk!) to get as many resources as possible whilst still holding down your dome. Interesting upgrade trees forcing choice between the various options. Great on Steam Deck!

Creativity meets management in this amazing aquarium sim. Design your tanks, routes for your visitors, machinery and zones for your staff, and keep upgrading and expanding. And then go down into a first person mode to walk around inside the aquarium yourself and marvel at your creations!

Deep Rock Galactic is not a game, it's a way of life. 4 Dwarf co-op at it's finest.

Stellaris is a great combination of 4X and Grand Strategy.

The fun starts with creating your race, and many hours can be spend just designing races to play as and against, with interesting species traits, political and cultural leanings, origins and appearances.

Then you begin the game. Like a typical 4X, this starts with lots of exploration, and the exploration phase of the game is engaging, filled with interesting stores and titbits, and revealing a varied galaxy with many different places you want to exploit or colonise. The exploration also continues quite long into the game.

As you explore, you'll meet other species, with their own political and cultural leanings which may align with or against you. Some may be quite a bit more powerful than you are and they're all interacting with each other too - you are just one small piece of a larger galaxy here, and eventually most of space will be filled with empires of varying technological levels, varying interests and agendas. This is really getting into the Grand Strategy stage. This can descend into war, with empires, alliances and federations fighting across space with fleets of varied ships, bombarding and invading planets, wearing down the will of the enemy to fight to force a peace and hopefully some gains.

You also need to manage your empire internally. You must manage your population growth, housing and employment, the nature of your society and how much say or the living standards your population have and how stratified you are. You may end up with multiple species living in your empire, and have to work out how equal they are - do you have a free and fair democracy, a socialist paradise, or a stratified caste-based society with alien - or even your own species - as slaves. Do you have menial robots or are they given rights? All of these impact your own production and economy, as well as your interaction with other empires.

There are many more layers this gets into but I'll leave it there for now. If this interests you so far, I'd highly encourage you to pick it up as probably the easiest Paradox game to get into and an introduction to Grand Strategy via the 4X genre.

This game is a masterclass in worldbuilding and an interesting mix of genres with a great story supported by the gameplay to boot.

Metal isn't my usual musical choice by a long shot but it is so appropriate to this game and you just have to appreciate and admire the awesome setting, lore and backstory to every mechanic in the game.

The world has been constructed from the ground up to be thematic and packed with awe inspiring sights, subtle references and hidden spots to discover, making it fun to explore and over-the-top ridiculous in an amusing and enjoyable way.

All round recommend this great gem of a game, having completed it twice!

A very fun RTS, especially in multiplayer. There's no units to control or battles to be had, its all about economic warfare. Creating monopolies, hiking up prices for your competitors, landing yourself in massive amounts of debt and buying out the other buisnisses. A great game which is espeically good with friends.

The tactical gameplay is tight, the city game I found initially very difficult but having gotten my head around it I find it a very satisfying experience with concequences to your choices and although losing a soldier isn't permenant, it adds more stakes to the fights and incentivises you to try to keep all your soldiers alive.

Overall if you enjoyed FS1 or are interested in the concept (simultaneous turns, tight and visceral combat with nothing left to chance, extremely detailed orders down to fractions of a second, and all with an amazing and atmospheric soundtrack and in-game sounds) then you should certainly give this a try!
