incredible art, great story, great music. the ending was a bit predictable, and hence felt a little weak in comparison to the rest of the game, but its overall well worth playing

not a lot of games i'd consider personally important. usually theyre very intense emotionally, like when the darkness comes, or theyre something i sunk a lot of time into, like the hotline miami series. this took me 14 minutes, probably closer to 12 if you dont count me messing with the settings. i thought i knew what the ending would be after the save games line, but i didnt want that to be the case because by then, the game had already felt so important to me. this felt like a real conversation between me and a brother i never had. it felt like a conversation i wish i could have with my dad, my dog, my old friends, the list goes on. i wanted it to be real, but i knew what its like, and i knew why i wanted it to be real. thats why the game is so important. its what i want, but can never have. its beautiful.

it seems like a good game, but it also seems like a complete conceptual rip of sirhaian's when the darkness comes. i don't doubt that the dev can make great games, and i would absolutely love to see what they could make with their own original ideas. as for this though, like i said, just seems like the dev took the idea and tried to remake it. it is entirely possible though that its original, but the similarities are just too evident for me to ignore.

viewing it from that angle, it feels like a knockoff (saying that feels a bit harsh), but regardless of whether comparing it or not, it definitely lacks subtlety - the flashing of "anxiety, depression, suicide" kinda solidified that i cant take it very seriously (not to mention the pleh/help thing). also, the motion blur in the 3d sections is a bit much, shame you cant disable it, and the narration feels too lighthearted, theres not a lot of punch in the voice acting if you get what i mean.

on the bright side, i loved the sprite work on the little guy in the in-universe pleh game! the transition from the 2d pleh to 3d was so seamless that i thought the game froze, it really impressed me. the scene at the end of the first level/launch of the game where it zooms into the door and then crashes was amazing too, i always love things like that in games.

im sure id have a lot more to say, both bad and good, if i'd played more, but like i ranted about in the start, i couldnt help but compare it, which i think only worsened its issues for me. i still do think that itd be interesting to see what the dev could come up with on their own though! maybe exploring mental health in a different way? i dunno, but if i come across something new i'll probably check it out. i can't recommend the game from what i played though (which as i said was extremely little), and i don't particularly plan to play it again.
