The only game where you can either relax and go with the flow or micromanage everything down to millisecond precision - absolutely love it

One of the greatest games of all time updated to modern standards of gameplay and visual fidelity. Absolutely worth the years of waiting, especially for how much time and fun you can get out of it despite it being so cheap. The later chapters drag on a little bit, but besides that, it's essentially perfect.

Early Access Review
Pros:
  • Great workshop/market/community with skins, assets, maps, etc.
  • Free to play, fun to pay
  • Connected/active developer
  • Great multiplayer
  • Tons of character/vanity customization
  • Can get high on glue

Cons:
  • Not a ton to do after you have a basis of survival as there are no quest type things
  • Playthroughs can get less fun as you get better at the game and there is less of a challenge
  • Singleplayer isn't fun, and playing with random people isn't much fun either, so friends are almost necessary
  • Can be difficult for a lot of computers to run smoothly despite the low-end graphics

Have played since 2.0 and loved it to death ever since. 3.0 was an insane overhaul and everything has massively improved. As it is free, I definitely recommend anyone with some friends to dedicate a couple of hours to check this one out.

11/10 - F2P yet I've still spent more money than I would on a proper P2P game

Beat all levels on mobile version, bought Steam Version for user created demon levels. SOOOO Much easier. This game is great. Buy it, it's cheap, and it's fun.

edit 4 years later: Still a fantastic pass-time game with plenty of official levels as well as endless amazing community created levels.

Huge variety on difficulty scale so that it's never gets too easy or hard!

Beating difficult levels after dozens of hours of practice feels super rewarding

edit ANOTHER 4 years later: I take it back don't play the hard levels

BEST GAME EVER

edit 10 years later:

This game defined an entire genre of gaming, a generation of internet culture, and literally made me and my friends better people for having participated in it. This is why seeing the sorry excuse for a state it has been left to rot in is so horrendous, and it is with only the heaviest of hearts that I am finally moved enough to change my review to negative. I understand that cheating in video games is a systemic problem affecting the entire gaming community, but none are affected even remotely as badly as the degree to which TF2 has been while left completely high and dry by its developer. Valve as a corporation makes billions of dollars a year from the success of the Steam platform that was pioneered by the early gaming communities that made Steam their home, including early Team Fortress 2. God only knows how many people made a Steam account just to try out this particular game only to end up with a library of dozens of friends, hundreds of games, and thousands of dollars spent - but at the very least I'm on that list. I don't care if a solution doesn't make financial sense right now; Valve owes it to this community to keep the game in a playable state, no matter how much it costs. My understanding is that at the very least they could disable the ability to launch in command line mode, add captchas, or block VPN connections to official servers for essentially free. If that isn't the case, tell us. Communicate. We want to know what is stopping you from doing anything at all. Although I haven't played TF2 in quite a few years, I play CS2 regularly and have thousands of dollars invested in CS skins. Cheating in CS has only gotten worse and worse over the last couple of years and this inaction from Valve is the writing on the wall for me to jump ship before it ends up in an equally abhorrent state. Just do something, anything. #FixTF2
