It's like Terraria, but the ♥♥♥♥ on the screen isn't so tiny it's basically invisible. So that's a 10/10 for me lmao

Genuinely one of the best procedurally generated turn based RPG games out there. It genuinely feels like sitting down and playing a DnD session with better immersion. The ONLY critique I have for this game is that it would be massively improved with a narrator. When I watched the trailer for the game on its steam store page, I was under the impression that the text would be narrated by one of the two people in the trailer, and I was excited to hear the narration. I was slightly let down when I realized the text was not narrated, but I genuinely don't think it takes away from the enjoyment of the game- it would simply be an overall improvement. The voice actors in the trailer did an excellent job of sounding like an intimate family moment of sharing stories from an elder's youth to a bright eyed and bushy tailed younger member of the new generation, which is what this game is all about. The creators should seriously consider getting some voice actors, if not the two from the trailer, to give as optional narrators that read text throughout the game.

Game looks like ♥♥♥♥ and is optimized terribly. Can't go longer than 3-5 seconds without massive frame drops for no apparent reason. Every other recently released AAA title runs perfectly fine and smoothly for me, Cyberpunk 2077 literally gave me less issues than this game has. Considering this is just a dark souls game which is a stand in for a medieval themed unforgiving rhythm game, the constant frame drops make the game unplayable. Save the 60 dollars and get it on sale.

So far the only features i can see that are missing are being able to change what color you're playing as in multiplayer, extra scoreboards being gone forcing you to actually gather that information yourself, and not being able to choose a random option for anything. I've been playing RTS games and age of empires games since I was five years old and I had to come to the reviews and search through page after page to find even one criticism that ACTUALLY named issues instead of making vague references to "incomplete game" without elaborating more or whining about vague "features" that were in other aoe games but not in this one. I've been enjoying my sequel to aoe2 and I'm glad the aoe series went back to its roots. There aren't as many civilizations (which will most definitely be expanded with DLC) but every civilization feels so unique from the last one that I personally prefer this approach, the worst part about aoe 2 was the 2-4 civilizations that all shared such a similar/the exact same building scheme. The art style makes it a lot easier to distinguish between environment and actual units compared to the last 2 games, and overall the visibility of every aspect of this game has been improved.

All of the negative reviews I've seen so far could also be applied to the first subnautica. I can't deal with that game's unfixable pop in problems and since most of the time is spend pressing w while you move through zones you've seen a million times, this game making the biomes a little smaller helped eliminate backtracking (another fake criticism that doesn't apply to this game unless you suck at it, which is literally any and every game, but there's a colossal amount of it in the first one due to map size) because the resources are slightly more abundant as well if you know how to look for them by scanning them and reading PDA entries. Overall, the needless, pointless bouts of holding w while you watch a show on your second screen and wait 3 minutes to get to the biome you're heading to have been eliminated. The story is exactly what anyone with more than two brain cells could've expected out of a genuine sequel especially one that made dozens and dozens of references to an alien species that "might not be completely gone," but I've seen a significant amount of conservative uproar at the idea that anyone who prioritizes peoples' safety over profits for Alterra could possibly be considered a protagonist.

The gameplay is objectively better. You spend less time holding buttons and zoning out to get from point A to point B, boo hoo people missed the seamoth and cyclops because they'd prefer sequels just have all the same vehicles and items apparently. The criticisms for this game literally almost ALL boil down to "this game isn't the first game so I don't like it."

I don't leave reviews for games. I'd like to preface this with that in mind.

I have played less than ten hours of this game, and in that time it's instantly become one of my all time favorites. One of the games I will be showing my children when they're old enough, and anyone who will ever listen to me talk about it. Othercide knows how to deliver a sense of hopelessness in a way that no other game developer quite can. They feed you pieces of the story that you connect yourself. Like every sister you send to die on the battlefield, you know only fragments of what's going on. But what you all know in common is who the enemy is, and that they must be stopped.

And as you survive, you unwrap just how heart breaking and tragic your survival is, from an endless amount of different perspectives. How tragic EVERYTHING is. I feel terrible for winning, I feel terrible for losing, I feel terrible for doing nothing, and everything is all so overwhelming, but in a way that makes me want to do nothing but play more.
If you told me this game was an elaborate simulation to make me feel like one of the sisters in the game, I wouldn't have a hard time believing you.
