It has its faults but it's fun and is definitely worth the price. This basically feels like the best flash game I've ever played and I mean that with all the fondness in my heart for the flash games of the early 2000s. Can't wait to see what other features get added in the future.

The game crashes on startup, there's a discussion thread dating back to 2020 and the problem still exists.

FWIW I liked the game a lot years ago when it still, y'know, launched and didn't crash.

Listen, I'm looking for a new Advance Wars, you're looking for a new Advance Wars, everyone's looking for a new Advance Wars.

This isn't it.

This game's okay. I guess it depends where you're coming from wrt experience with other deck-building games.

The game encourages building a synergistic deck over a generic "good stuff" build, but you often won't know if you get your payoff relics/cards until very late into your run. There are _some_ things you can do like planning your path to encounter more chests/question marks/mini-bosses/stores to give yourself more opportunities to get the payoffs, but at the end of the day you could just get hosed by RNG. And that feeling kinda sucks knowing that you didn't lose because of a misplay, you lost just 'cause of variance in the game.

It's like getting mana-screwed and losing after mulling down to 4 except it literally never happens to the other guy, ever, because the other guy is a computer.

It's probably better than most early access titles and will probably get better as more cards/events are added/balanced. I think I got my money's worth out of this game.

Do you like losing for no reason other than the RNG deciding you should lose? If so, this is the game for you.

Your characters _will_ die through no fault of your own. Not because of misplays on your part, nor because your deck-building skills aren't up to snuff, but because of stuff like never getting the dungeon tiles you need to get to an exit in time.

The game's complete randomness is a design choice, but imo they're relying on being a rogue-lite game as an excuse for lazy/poor game design.

Compare this to, say, Darkest Dungeon where I've always felt that, when I lose, it's my fault for being underprepared or greedy or careless.

The game is frustrating through-and-through.

I liked this game a few years ago when I pre-ordered it with some colleagues at the time, but it's just not fun anymore and I don't mean the burned out "not fun" where you want to enjoy a game but when you play it it bores you, I mean the kind of "not fun" where the new content is not only bland, it also introduces gameplay mechanics to old missions that are designed to punish players for... well, basically no reason. Looking at you, escape missions.

One time I launched this game and got distracted by an empty granola bar box on my desk and wound up spending my time reading the french side of the packaging instead of playing, which I think says a lot more about how I feel about Payday 2 than I could write up.

If you have a fiver to spend on Payday 2, do yourself a favour and just hide it in a winter coat or something. I guarantee you'll get more joy out of finding a fiver in your pocket one day than spending it on this game in its current state.
