I'm leaving this review in the negative section, for two reasons. One, people who are on the fence about the game will check the negative section, and two, the actual negative section doesn't have a lot of well written reviews.

Okay, so after reading both sections of reviews, I've noticed one constant complaint. DLC. There are literally a TON of DLC for this game. And, of course, those DLC cost money, and with all of them piled up, you could buy a whole other game. However, for those of you who don't have the cash, most of the DLCs don't matter. Sure, way of life, get a dog or whatever, but a lot of the core gameplay features are offered in the core game.

DLC that don't offer gameplay features, such as the dynasty shields, the ruler pictures, the troop models, etc, are literally purely aesthetic. If you own them or not, they aren't going to help you or hinder you in gameplay. Wondering why there are cheap cosmetic DLC is like wondering why people buy hats and guns in TF2, or skins in CSGO. It really doesn't do anything, but if you want it, you can have it.

Now there are a few DLC that do change the game- such as the ones that let you control other rulers than the stock game. Most of them are cheap, and to be honest, those other rulers aren't even fun.

Let's talk about gameplay, you know, why most people play games. In CK2, the gameplay is different from other RTS or grand strategy games you might have played before. The gameplay isn't designed around combat, believe it or not. While combat is a big chunk of the game, CK2 differs from EU4 in the form that CK2 focuses on story and politics. You'll see more of the fleshed out effects of the war and the politics that follow the war. If you've ever watched John Green's "Crash Course" world history series, he mainly focuses not on the events of the battle, but of the effects of it.

That being said, it takes your entire lifetime to clear the dirt from your toenails in this game. If you don't have patience, this game probably isn't for you.

However, for history buffs like me, I love the game. I have a lot more time registered offline. So uh, without filling up paragraphs, I'll give you a short hand.

+Really nice event system
+Global politics are amazing
+The religion system can make for great gameplay
+Marry your infant daughter to a 60 year old man
+Have a gay relationship with the pope
+Feel amazing once a plot is successful

-Takes a long time to achieve things
-Sometimes AI can be ridiculous
-2 year old assassins

In summary, even though I would recommend everybody who sounds interested to buy this game, I don't think I'd buy it full price. Wait till the game goes on sale, and then buy it through a 3rd party supplier. For the people who don't know how this works-

Game goes on sale for 15$
Third party dealer buys the game en masse, sells copies and keys for 5-8$
A good website for that kind of stuff is "Kinguin"

Have fun!

Early Access Review
Okay. This is going to be a long one.

Here is what the official store page says.
"Hey. This game is alpha. As in, yeah, it's not a game yet. It's in it's breastfeeding stages- we're constantly working on it. If you don't want to deal with a game that's buggy as hell, if you don't want to deal with low protections against hackers or just overall things that don't work, don't buy this game."

Here is what the reviews say.
"OMG THIS GAME SUCKS SO MUCH EVERYTHING IS BUGGY NOTHING WORKS DONT WASTE UR MONEY 0/10 WOULD NOT NOSCOPE AGEN. IDC IF IT SAYS I SHUDNT BUY THIS GAME IF I DONT LIKE BUGS I STILL BOT IT CUZ I THOT IT WUD B GUD".

You are the problem. Do you know what a game needs, especially in it's alpha stages?
Money.
A game cannot get better without money.
Game developers do not make a game for the hell of it. They don't tell their staff "Hey, just make the game for the hell of it." Good games aren't made by people who just want to have a good time. Good games are made by people who have graduated college, have experience in game making, and have their livelyhoods entirely dependant on doing dev work on games. People who get PAYED to work on games. If your dev team is getting payed, they work harder. The dev team is working? The dev team is listening to feedback? The dev team is bugtesting? Fantastic! The dev team is getting payed for their work, and they deserve it!

But here is what you do.
You tell people not to buy a game that is in alpha, simply for the fact that is IS in alpha. Your hundred and something list of friends sees your poorly written review right at the top of the page, since you're their friend, and they make the decision NOT to buy the game. That's 30 dollars that could have gone towards the game's funding. Less work can now be done, there is less money for workers to get payed. Huh? Pay them? Funny story, workers only /work/ when they get payed.

Here's a hypothetical.
There is a game in early alpha. Let's take a VERY early alpha game with lots of potential as the hypothetical- "The forest".
Let's say, in our hypothetical situation, a recent patch accidentally created a bug that made the game or a certain aspect of the game /absolutely unplayable./
Let's add another hypothetical and say that the game devs are out of money to pay their workers.

So, the typical "OMG I WASTED MY MONEY ON THIS GAME 0/10 DO NOT BUY" comments ensue, game sales plummet.
The developers no longer have money to pay their workers, which means... What? Wait, what? You guessed it. There is nobody working on fixing the bug. Funding runs out, nobody works on it, the game is at a standstill until people decide that, to get more sales, they work on the game for free, and sales only pick up after FREE LABOR has happened.

The the same applies to DayZ. It is a very new video game, and for it to get anywhere, you have to buy it in alpha. This gives the devs money to work on bugs, patch the engine, add features, optimize, Etc. It's a game that has MASSIVE amounts of potential and is absolutely unique on the market.

TOO LONG; DIDN'T READ.

I am a DayZ vet and want to play a basic survival-zombie game based off what I love. BUY THE GAME.
I am a new player to the DayZ franchise, but want to experience it. BUY THE GAME.
I am a DayZ vet and want to play a well-rounded survival-zombie game improved off what I love. BUY THE GAME. IT'LL GET THERE EVENTUALLY.
I am a completely new DayZ player, but I think this game has a TON of potential and want to aid it along it's process. BUY THE GAME.

I am a player who really likes the aspect of the game, but I think that in it's current stage, I just wouldn't have fun because of all the hindrances, but I really look forward to seeing it in it's adult phases! DON'T BUY THE GAME.

EVEN THO I RED THE TXT AND IT SAYS ITS BUGGY LOL DONT BUY IF U DONT LIKE I STILL BOUHGT AND WHY IS IT SO BAD Y IS IT BUGGY? NO1 EVR TOLD ME IT WAS GON B BUGEE!123231!!/1/1/?! DUDE DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ IT LITERALLY IS LIKE THE FIRST THINK ON THE STORE PAGE.

Buy the game. Make a forum account. Invite some friends. REPORT BUGS FOR THE SAKE OF PETE. It will make the game better.

Airship battles, steampunk, wicked customization, tons of ships.
Little to no bugs, VERY balanced ships and weaponry.
A personal 10/10, absolutely brilliant game.
