Honestly, it's a really beautiful game with a fantastic atmosphere and I truly enjoyed playing through it while keeping an eye out for potential secrets, however, as far as gameplay itself is concerned, I must admit that it feels clunky at times. The greatest weakness Limbo has is that it attempts to be a platformer/puzzlegame-hybrid, but effectively is neither.

This unfortunately means that the puzzles are either too easy or leave you unsatisfied as the solutions, for the most part, are rather gimmicky than clever. It also means that the platforming sections' difficulty mainly results from a restriction of the player, rather than proper level design.

To illustrate this problem: Limbo "challenges" the player at one section with two successive traps that are triggered once if the player avoids the button underneath, and once if the player precisely jumps onto the button, without any hints to these triggers, which means that the player has to die at least once to "figure" it out. This is not in any way difficult or challenging, but it's at best annoying.

However, despite all of this, I definitely recommend the game anyway simply because it really manages to maintain its cloak of mystery even after the fantastic ending, meaning that the actual "puzzle", namely the story and motivation of the protagonist, is left open-ended, as a final riddle to be solved. The atmosphere is gorgeously dark and unsettling, the artstyle is compelling and the drive to explore and understand the very game is certainly prevalent, making it an outstanding experience to go through despite of all the aforementioned issues.

It's really short though, so get it when it's cheaper.
