been following this one for a long time and I would never remember the name but always saw the gifs on twitter. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised to say this game not only looks awesome and fun, but it is awesome and fun to play. If you grew up with games like banjo kazooie and Mario 64 you're going to love this game. The ability to swap materials and make water turn to lava and water falls into vines you can climb is a really fun way to explore this collectathon. And the characters have so much charm. I played on the steam deck and in the intro moments it seemed to freeze but don't fret, just let it run and it will play smooth as butter. I had a ton playing and stopped b/c I didn't want to spoil the full game.

one note to the developer, in 3D platforming the shadow below your character is really helpful to know where you're going to land, however in the beginning world there is some areas that are in the shadows so you can't see your characters shadow to determine where you'd land after a jump. so maybe make the shadow different than the shadows in game so you could still see it even when you're in an area that is in the shadows.

I've been following Thomas's work for a long time, and I truly admire his creativity and unique ideas. That’s why it’s so disheartening to see what this game became. Originally, it was called Father, and from everything I saw, it had the makings of something deeply personal and refreshingly original—rooted in themes of fatherhood and the Garden of Eden. That concept felt like a genuine piece of Thomas, something special that stood apart.

But somewhere along the way, it seems like doubt crept in. What was once a bold and distinctive vision turned into something that feels more like a BioShock imitation with a touch of Five Nights at Freddy’s aesthetics. Even the upgrade stations feel directly lifted from BioShock, and it’s hard not to feel like the soul of what this game could have been was lost in the process. Watching Thomas's interviews, I get the sense that even he realizes this wasn’t the game he initially set out to make. Maybe it was due to publisher influence or pressure to appeal to a broader audience, but I just wish he had the chance to see Father through to completion.

I say all of this not out of malice, but out of genuine appreciation for Thomas as a designer. He has a rare gift for storytelling and world-building, and I want to see him create something truly his own again—something that doesn’t feel like it’s chasing trends or second-guessing its identity. Maybe one day, he'll revisit Father and give us the game he originally envisioned. I’d love to see that.

Also, for those wondering about performance: I played on the Steam Deck, and it struggled to run well even on low settings, so optimization could definitely use some work.

Hidden Gem Alert: A $9.99 Adventure That Channels BotW and Monster Hunter!

First discovered this during a Steam Next Fest, and now at its new price point of $9.99, this game is an absolute steal for what it offers. As someone who's been exploring its world, let me tell you why this game deserves your attention.

MOVEMENT & COMBAT THAT FEELS AMAZING:
The standout feature is the incredibly satisfying tether system. Imagine combining Spider-Man's web-swinging with Monster Hunter's combat - you can swing freely across the landscape, then use that same tether to slam into monsters with your weapons or even climb onto them! Add in a glider for soaring through the gorgeous open world, and zero fall damage for crazy stunts, and you've got a recipe for pure fun.

CLEVER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:
Unlike other survival/crafting games, Fera respects your time with a brilliant portal system. Your NPC tribe members actually help collect and transport resources back to your village through portals - no more tedious back-and-forth trips! While storage space is initially limited, it's upgradeable, making resource management feel helpful rather than restrictive.

PERFORMANCE & TECHNICAL NOTES:
- Steam Deck compatible with recommended settings at 40Hz
- Occasional slowdowns, but nothing game-breaking
- One seamless open world to explore
- Some janky moments that honestly add to its charm
- Co-op support (though I haven't tested it personally)

ROOM FOR GROWTH:
The developers have plans to add more enemy variety, which the game could definitely benefit from. Think of it as a blend between Breath of the Wild and Monster Hunter - there's so much potential here waiting to be realized.

VERDICT:
At $9.99, this is a no-brainer for anyone who loves open-world exploration, creative combat, or unique survival mechanics. Yes, it's still in development and has rough edges, but the core gameplay loop is already incredibly fun. The stunning art style, freedom of movement, and innovative features make this an easy game to recommend. The developers deserve support to continue building on these fantastic foundations.

The potential here is enormous - if you're on the fence, take the plunge. Help this hidden gem grow into the amazing game it's clearly destined to become.

Been having a lot of fun with this game. I love the little sound effects when cleaning the corruption. The music is delightful and it's kind of relaxing to clear the corruption and restore the land. This is a good game to play when you need a change of pace. Definitely belongs in the cozy games genre

First off the game is amazing. I love how it combines the chill experience of mining but then adds on the intensity of the dome battles. It reminds me a lot of the gameplay loop of deep rock galactic which is another favorite of mine. I've been playing this game and having a blast. I saw one review say that the game is too short they beat hard mode in less than 2 hours? Wow, I haven't even come close to beating normal and I've been playing almost 4 hours haha. Either way I just wanna applaud the devs for making such a cool game. It's amazing how this game spawned from a ludum dare game jam game into a full steam release. It works great on the steam deck. The only complaint I can give the game is that it's a bit hard to see the enemies on dark backgrounds and some kind of outline accessibility option would be really helpful.

I can't wait to unlock the sword dome and see if any other types come out in the future.

I have only had a little bit of time with the game but the core gameplay loop is solid. The game has me wanting to get all the collectibles and find all the secret areas. Thank goodness for the checkpoints which come in handy for sure. The controls are really smooth. I have been playing on my steam deck which is great for short gameplay sessions. I appreciate how the default controls out of the box support basically two buttons for all the main actions.
