The very definition of average, loosing anything remote to Dragon Age in terms of world building and characters.

I have the strong impression that somewhere along the way there were so many ideeas strung together that this amazing world building looses all coherence.

Also, the insuferable grinding you have to do in order to unlock weapons without which it is nigh impossible to progress at one point just was enough for me. And I don't mean it's one of those git gud situations.

On the upside the game looks gorgeous and plays smooth, even on launch, which in 2023 is a major surprise. Music and atmosphere is on point.

There is no proper way in which this review can make the game justice. It's an amazingly well crafted experience, intense and executed almost flawless.

The stage in which you jump in as the "ghost in the machine" aka SAM is what appears to be a mundane space station where something went wrong and you need to help the only other human, Dr. Fisher discover what happened.

I believe one of the strongest points of observation is that it puts the player outside the usual area of "central" character. You are a passive, non emphatic machine that needs to support the crew on their daily tasks and there is never a moment in the game where this immersion is broken. By somehow shifting the focus from the player towards outside events and actors, the amazing voice acting, scenery and characters (with some minor exceptions) get to truly shine.
The game looks good and the special visual effects add a certain charm to making the world look and feel convincing.
Puzzles are interesting and provide a good challenge without being dismissive.

Highly recommended!

This is a game you'll love until you will most probably hate it and back.

So, just to expand: a true to the heart cyberpunk visual galore, Virtuaverse packs all the good stuff expected from the genre in a classy point & click adventure. Visuals are gorgeous and immersive, all the hubs/scenes have a certain cinematographic feel to them and contribute to the world building. Music, as well, amazing if you are a fan.

The story I would argue is overall strong and has some nice little subversive moments, but I do get the feeling that it sometimes builds up a lot of anticipation and tends to fall flat / not build upon.

Characters... well... are serviceable to the story. And now I am getting to the “love till hate” part... Again, there are moments when how the characters behave and react that really contribute to the immersion and as you're slowly building up anticipation and getting into the flow they do or say something extremely stupid on non-related to the task at hand... Or straight up seem to not care about anything that happens around them or the consequence of their actions.

One of the most frustrating negative points for me personally was the loophole logic some quests have. I don't know if it has to do with the inherent way old school point & click adventure games are designed, but there are moments in this game when you will exhaust all possible options and MAYBE then remember a random item/character 2 stages ago that might push the quest forward. After you manage to finish said task and you look back I often had many "Why would anybody do this in this specific way?" moments. More often than not, there is no cue that the quest progressed and the journal system is there for... something.

As a conclusion, I personally love it for the piece of art that it is and, if you manage to live with some of the jaggedness of the quest design I can wholeheartedly recommend this game as a fine addition to your game collections.

A heartful experience that sheds light on the stigma associated with psychosis. All I can say is despite some gameplay flaws, I can't recommend it enough.
