This is the first modern multiplayer shooter I've played in years that doesn't make me feel terrible and hate other people after a play session.

The game's finally up and playable after being hacked by a single individual for like 3 years. I don't know how long it'll last, but it's definitely amazing being able to play TF|1 after all these years.

I'm not a huge fan of how you keep having redo the entire test chamber over and over again from the start just because you didn't get it 100% right the first time. It gets tedious, fast.

A great Portal 2 mod! The addition of the time portal adds an extra layer of thought provoking challenge to puzzles, I can't recommend this enough.

I know it got a lot of hate at launch, I'm having a lot of fun with it! The community is still playing this game pretty actively, and it's pretty easy to find other players naturally throughout the world. The PvP stuff is also a lot better too; Summons have a really easy time connecting due to the better netcode, and you can change your covenant any time from a bonfire. You can also get the dried finger early on from the first Undead Merchant you find, which is great for forcing invaders into your world. There's also a password system that lets you summon buddies, and scales them up or down to your level.

If you don't like the graphics, there's always some great overhaul texture mods on the Nexus, and recently someone created a PTDE to Remastered texture converter so you can port over your favorite texture mods from the original PC release. Check it out!

One of the best FPS games I've ever played. You owe it to yourself.

EDIT: Hackers killed the online lobby so no one can play. RIP TF2, you were good to me once.

Apparently this game got a lot better since launch because it feels fantastic now. It's great with another friend, but I'd recommend playing with random matchmaking from time to time to meet new people.
I think a lot of negative reviewers hate the "PVP risk" that comes from the emergent gameplay in this game, but different people also love and hate Dark Souls' forced PVP concept for the same reasons, so it's up to you to think about whether or not you'd enjoy a game with like Sea of Thieves without raging too hard.

Worth getting, even if you owned the original on the gamecube. Try downloading the "Super Sonic Adventure 2: The New Challengers" mod (with the battle DLC installed) so you can play as 2P characters like Amy and Tikal in the main game.

PROS:
  • Silky smooth 60FPS gameplay with no drops, and the graphical improvements and additions really help with Raptures' immersion. Everything in the original 360 port looked like it was beat with an ugly stick before getting glossed with a coat of polish, so this is a plesant change.
  • Director commentary reels are scattered throughout the game that provide somewhat lengthy (and spoilery) talks about the development process of the original Bioshock, and a museum was added to show off beta art assets that didn't make it to the final product.
  • There's bonus challenge missions you can do in the main menu, a New Game+ option, and achievements which weren't availble in the original PC release.
  • The game runs extremely well on my GTX 780 graphics card. A lot of the steam reviews gave me the impression that Bioshock Remastered was going to be a buggy mess but I haven't encountered any engine problems outside of the one's listed below. As long as you meet the reccomended settings its worth giving the Remaster a shot.
  • "Same great Bioshock, same great taste!"

CONS/BUGS:
  • Audio Hiccups. Playing with the menues during cutscenes can cause an audio line to repeat mid-sentence.
  • Anti-Aliasing causes the game to flicker. I turned it off and I haven't noticed any problems since.
  • Playing a challenge mission resets the difficulty down to medium once you reload a save from the main game. Make sure you change your difficulty back to the appropriate one and reload an old save because this can ruin achievements.
  • Saving and ingame menues can cause infrequent crashes. You're basically stuck in a situation where its better to just roll the dice and save after completing a room to make sure you either save your progress, or crash and only lose a room's worth of progress. You might as try to get the Survival and No-Vitachamber achievements to at least justify the amount of saves you'll be making.

All in all, the updates aren't too major, but Bioshock feel like a director's cut re-release of a classic film, and as an old fan of the orignal I'm pleased with how it's turned out. Hopefully 2K irons out the compatability issues and bugs in the future so everyone can enjoy this Remaster.

If you're going to pay $3 for the Battle DLC, you might as well download the "Super Sonic Adventure 2: The New Challengers" mod while you're at it. It lets you play as Amy, Metal Sonic, Tikal, Chaos, and the 2 Chao Mechs in the singleplayer game and the chao garden. It definitely made my 180 emblem run a lot more enjoyable.
