I'm about 2 hours in and honestly I'm really shocked by how well made this game is. The art / animations are amazing, the music is peak, and the combat loop is really fun and leaves a lot of room for self expression with all the different builds and move sets you can mix and match. I think the most impressive part about the game is the attention to detail that was put into it. The love and passion the creators have really seeps into every aspect of the game and it is infectious.

I watch Rob's stuff here and there but I wouldn't say I'm a devout follower by any means; I'm just a musician who likes good music based content. I say this to express that I think a lot of people are going to skip over this game because it's a youtuber game, which is such a shame. You don't need to follow Rob in any way to enjoy this game. I'm sure there are little easter eggs here and there, but me not knowing any of them hasn't diminished my enjoyment with it so far.

It's well worth the $15USD asking price, these guys killed it.

The game thus far is amazing!
The presentation of the game looks great and the moment to moment gameplay is super fun. There's a solid number of dungeons in the game right now and I'm looking forward to them adding more. Even after you beat them, you can scale the difficulty for better loot drops and for a harder challenge!

The biggest drawbacks for me personally are the Q times and the limited hero select, both of which are just a product of the game being in open beta! There's 6 characters to play as, 2 for each role, and due to a lower playercount and runs having role requirements, you can find yourself waiting for quite a bit. Hopefully they can find a way to remedy the longer q times and I'm sure as the community grows it'll become less noticeable :>

Super excited to see where this game goes!

I need more of this game ASAP! I loved all the mechanics and gameplay and world so much PLEASE make a full release after your current game is done man. This is well worth 5 bucks and I'm about to replay it now with a different build. Please do yourself a favour and support this dev; it's only $5 and its a great game that will leave you wanting more.

Its a really fun casual shooter thats free and really faced paced. I enjoy the variety of characters and moment to moment gameplay loop. Its my pvp shooter of choice at the moment and I find myself playing both with friends and in solo q. The maps are cool and the mobile suits you pilot are even cooler.

Its not without its fair share of issues though; some goofy bugs that happen from time to time, zaku melee was super unbalanced (issue has been patched at time of writing this), and the mismash of battle pass + lootbox + daily challenges monetization strategy.

I think so long as they dont release any game breaking characters or maps I'll probably be playing this for the forseeable future

Short Review:
Game is pretty short for 13 dollars (beat the game in about 2.5 hours)
Has great music
Fun Gameplay/gunplay, level design, art and funny writing
Cool setting that I feel wasn't capitalized on enough
Focused more on being a fun experience rather than a deep immersive story which was great
Would recommend because I had a lot of fun, I just wish my fun could have lasted longer for what I paid.

Long Review:
It's really hard for me to decide if I want to recommend this game or not simply because of how short it is; I managed to beat the game on normal in 2 and a half hours and the asking price is about 13 dollars so it's very conflicting for me. The game is good, great even; it focuses more on being pure fun for the player with interesting level design, fun gun play and different ways to interact with the enviroment in order to progress through the world. It chooses to be more fun than immersive and that's great but one of the problems I have with the game is the enviroment itself. Again, the level design is fun and the way you traverse through the world with platforms and breaking open doors and smashing through walls is great. However, the backgrounds for the games can be a bit bland; there really isnt ever anything going on in the background even on the D-Day level which can make the world feel empty at times. I also feel they could have capitalized more on the setting of WW2 France a bit more rather than having us go into the woods and underground and in a secret facility and yadayada. Despite the Pricetag and the one or two minor issues I had I'm going to recommend this game because it was genuine fun and would probably be even more fun to play with friends.

Short version of review:
Great game with cool lore, mechanics and art with a few pacing issues near the end of the game. Impressivly only made by two people, pick up the game if you like souls like games

Long version of review:
Salt and Sanctuary has definetly been one of my most enjoyed games as of recent. I feel that it perfectly translates the feel and mechanics of the "Souls Like" genre into a 2D enviroment while the two man indie team at SKA Studios adds their own grunge bleak feeling to the game with the art and lore within the game. I have just recently beaten the game after going back and forth between playing SnS and other new titles to hit the scene but now that I have completed it, I'm sad that I didn't beat it earlier! Mechanically, it's fluid and fun to play with many many differnt play styles to choose from with the skill tree. The game has several different stories some of which I am to discover and will defintly be playing through it again on NewGame+ to try to discover details I missed. My biggest complaint in about the game is the progression towards the end; once you hit about level 80, you really dont need to level much more to beat the game. Another thing is that the beginning of the game had all these fleshed out areas that you really really had to get to know and go back and fourth through to grind and find secrets and items yet at the end of the game, it feels like you just kinda blow through the last 2 areas or so. My final complaint is with the final boss, it comes up very abbruptly imo, perhaps it's because I didn't do all of the side questing to get ALL of the lore, but by the end of it all it didn't feel like the boss fight was lead up to very well. I had slain the boss before and then suddenly this guy is talking to me about the final boss and then boom there he is. Despite these flaws, I think that the game is a great balance of fun and frustration with interesting lore and eviroments. I defintly reccomend that you buy this game if you like "Souls Like" games and I will defintly be following SKA Studios in hopes they make any more games at this level of quality.

Pick up this game for the online mode if you're going to pick it up at all. The single player mode is a little dull and the AI isnt very smart but the online is a fast 4v4 "hero based" battle arena that I actually really really enjoyed. The game isnt visually astounding and the sound design isnt something to brag home about either I will admit. However, this game is very cheap and I think the gameplay makes up for the fact that this is coming from an indie dev team. I warning I must give to the American audience: from what I've seen there are next to no US servers and so you'll be forced to play on the Japanese or the EU servers which is kind of a bummer because I genuinly enjoy this game. So I must implore that you try this game, if you dont enjoy it, the game isnt even a whole 10 dollars so you aren't losing much.

DISCLAMIER: If you plan on buying this game make sure you own a controller of some sort; mouse and keyboard will not work!

I have to say that after playing through the entire story that I am very pleased with the game and it was even longer than I expected. There were a few parts of the game that I thought didnt work well such as the horse mechanics but overall the game was solid and a fun experience for the whole 11 to 12 hours of the main story mode. I feel that fans of the series will enjoy this game more than someone who has never read the comics or seen the show due to teh fact that they may get a bit confused due to the fact that the game doesn't tell the story exactly the way the comics and show does. My biggest complaint is the fact that I felt this game was too easy even on one of the harder modes; I only died once in my whole playthough on the seconed hardest difficulty but other than I enjoyed this game as a fan of the series and will eventually go back to 100% it!

If you enjoy side scrolling beat em ups then you'll for sure enjoy this game. It's not a very long game unless you go for 100% completion but still very fun to play through none the less with a very nice art direction; my only major complaint is the lack of music variation within the game, last timed I played I felt like I was hearing the same guitar rift over and over so hopfully some variation will be added but for an indie game this is very well done!

I played both the games in this series on xbox and have to say that they still hold up today; they're fun and fast pased RPG strategy games are super enjoyable and can be stressful until after a few attempts at a level.
